A little insight.....

When i experienced this problem i went out under the hood and manually closed off the heater core control valve and removed the arm so it couldn't re-open. Since then i have been heat free.

It seems the control valve never seems to fully close, especially if the air is off. Give it a shot, i have been very happy since i did.

Is this something that anyone can do, or would I be better off going to a shop?

See that metal rod under it? It connects to the unit and moves via the hydraulic action inside the cylinder. Simply remove the arm from the dome and manually move the latch on the bottom of the heater control valve. Turn your heat on in your car and if you do not feel heat after doing this, you are set and ready! Give it a few minutes to cool down since there is still heat in the core, letting the car sit a while is a good idea too just to be sure.

also something to consider.
turn the fan on.
turn the **** all the way to cold position
turn the fan off.

it appears even though the fan may be off if your last position was at HOT it will keep the valve open.
If you have it at full cold, it will keep the valve as closed as it can get.

I feel the difference between the two... anyone else care to try?

Default hot air bothering me!

I have a 93 Sc300 and I have a problem. When I drive my car the hot air from my engine comes in my car under neath the steering wheel on the drivers side. Which makes it miserable to drive during summer.
Anyone experience this problem or know how to fix it?

Thanks

Its the way the car is designed. For some reason, my old MKIV has the same problem too. I guess hot air from the engine is not properly designed to escape so its circulates into the cabin. My Sc300 is like that but not nearly as bad.

I have not experienced this problem, but the info that Eurojulian and OLT have shared seems like an idea for you.

Make sure your car is running in tip-top shape, and try again.
