Anyone consider the Volvo XC60?
The styling is nice and "City Safe" is a cool feature. I haven't driven one. The interior seems smaller than the RX.

We were planning on seeing the XC60 the day we saw the RX, but deciding against it while we were having lunch across the street from the Volvo dealership. We knew we liked the RX and the dated engine and poor fuel economy of the Volvo pretty much did it in sight unseen.

I was interested in checking this vehicle when seeing the AD on TV. However, after we test-drove '10RX350 and Q5, we decided not to waste time to do so... We realize XC60 would be a good car but it's not what we're looking for.

Actually all my friends who have Volvos (1999-2008) have not had any issues. The mileage range of their cars are 10,000 to 190,000. They do have poor resale value but that can be an advantage for those in the market for used car.

I am still very impressed with their safety standards. Hope they can improve their mileage.

That is terrible. Two very good friends of mine have an 05 S80 non turbo and they average 29 mph. I have been very impressed with that. You would think Volvo's new SUV would provide better mileage.

But, if that's the number Volvo posts on the website and I have to drive this car, I will just make the numbers even worse in stop and go environments.

I looked at the XC60 in the showroom recently as the lease on my 06 RX400h is up later on in the year.
Yes,it is about 4-5 inches shorter than the RX.I think the load bays are similar in size, but rear leg room was slightly less in the XC60.
I really liked the design of the XC60,and the safety level seems second to none, but what I really noticed as the biggest difference was the quality of the interior and "luxury" feel. The XC60 did not have the same level of luxury finish as the lexus. The quality of the materials and the finish were just not up to Lexus standards.
The XC60 felt more like a very good quality family car,one level down from a Lexus in terms of fit and finish.
Having said that,I really liked the XC60.If the "luxury" feel is not that important and you want a practical and safe small SUV,then the CX60 is worth a look.

Just how much safer are Volvos these days. years ago, Volvo really had the edge as far as safety is concerned. The auto industry as a whole have made hugh progress as far as safety is concerned. I truely believe that the new Volvos are not that much safer than other high end cars. Volvo is in big trouble, they have lost their only selling point which is safety. Recently, they have try to make sedans that performance well, but speed and safety does not sell.
