I saved enough on snow blowers, snow tires, defrost wires for pipes, etc to pay my DMV (and also make 50K a year more)!!!!

You're lucky you are not in Nevada. I had a 2007 RX and it was almost 400 a year in California. When I moved to Nevada 3 years later it was almost 500. My kids 2009 Matrix in California is 150.

Are you seriously complaining about $100 increased vs. CA? I could lease a brand new car with the income tax i am paying to the state of CA (at least 9.3% plus AMT of 7%).

We just paid well over $700 for our 2013 RX in Colorado! The cost here is based largely on vehicle weight, and some on the type. I'm about to go pay a similar amount for to register our new CT.

When we moved to Colorado nearly 20 years ago, it cost a fraction of the amount we had been paying in CA for the same car (93 Suburban), and the lady actually apologized because she thought it was expensive! Now we appear to be at least twice as expensive. Our son just bought a new QX80, and will pay more than $1500.

Yes I am. Were talking about auto registration costs. As far as other taxes go. I pay about 150 every two weeks to Jerry Brown for my taxes. And 500 a year for my car.

In Florida it would Zero and 50 dollars. And no smog.

In IA we paid $384.50 for a sticker for the yearly registration fee of our 2010 - RX350. IA also charges by the type of vehicle, features, engine size and estimated value. The high registration fees run for the first ten years of the vehicle life. After that a fairly big drop in fee price.

I'm in Oklahoma - not Wisconsin! I've never owned a snow blower, snow tires, defrost wires for pipes, etc. and I make a great living (not sure how that's relevant but OK).

We lived in northern California for six years. I'll take the cost of living and kindness of people here any day.

Thumbs up Better in Dixi

Up to about three years ago, renewing your tag every year in GA could be a costly affair depending on what you drive, how new it was, and the county and zip code your lived in. They went by an annually published book that listed the values by where you lived, M/Y car, etc. It was basically a value added tax to the $25 registration fee. For where I live (which is less than many county's) my 2010 RX was down to $400 & change this year from a high of about $700 when it was new. It's still under the old laws. When the law changed, so did the tax system and now we pay for it one time up front on the purchase. The fee for my 2014 C7 Vette would have been $25 but as a retired Vet I have a retired military tag that cost $0 to renew in person or $1 by mail. Because it was such a good feeling to pay nothing, I spent probably $3 in gas to do it for free .
