It is interesting how they worded it for RX300 - it allows the vehicle to start in 2nd gear.

Yeah, but the shift programming chart clearly shows that under snow mode, it starts in 2nd gear.

The wording could be more direct to discourage interpretation. lol

I know Snow Mode is to put "more-even" power to two or all four wheels, but does using Snow Mode change anything in the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)? Just curious.

Especially on a 4-gear auto that the RX300 is. 2nd gear is too tall to start from a standstill.

It's in the first generation owners manual. I leased 3 of them.

We have a 2010 RX and get a lot of snow here in Vermont. The car is new to us this season so I am just starting to see how it works in the snow. With about 8 inches on the roads I engaged and disengaged snow mode yesterday. At slow speeds snow mode seems to reduce power even when moving about 10 miles per hour.

I could not tell much difference with the AWD in snow mode but the car was not slipping so it was not a real test.

So far the car performs well on the snow and slush with new tires (but not winter tires). We are not sure if we need dedicated winter tires yet since the all seasons are new and still supple. We will probably wait on winter tires until next season as long as it works well enough.

Vermont, unlike many states, does not have a bare roads plowing policy. Vermont has a "safe roads" policy that means that roads are covered with snow and slush during and after storms. Drivers are expected to slow down and drive within conditions.
