Default Help w/ buying a used RX 350

New member to CL, very excited about what I'm seeing on here so far. I'm strongly considering making the upgrade from my faithful Honda Accord to a Lexus, specifically a 2011 RX 350. From what I have read here there is some, perhaps minimal, difference between the '10 and '11 but as with all pre-owned cars prices can vary. I'm here to ask if the community here feels the following is a reasonable price, thank you all for any help you can provide.

2011 Silver w/black leather, FWD, Premium Package with Nav, 54k miles, 8.5-9/10 body, paint and interior, 1 owner, clean Carfax for $22k

I have not had the vehicle inspected by a dealership as of yet, its a private party sale from a colleague. Is this a reasonable price?

Hi. Welcome to CL! Yes, this is very good price since I've seen a CPO equivalent sold via Lexus for ~30K. Buying private has its benefits.

Not to place any doubt, however CARFAX not always has on file an accidented/repaired vehicle. Case in point here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ml#post8793903

So good idea to get it checked out and if all is to your expectations, it's a great deal.

Excellent thank you for your feedback. What does the dealership usually charge for an inspection, is this even a service they provide?

Yes for sure. They may charge you per the hourly rate ~100$/hr the hour for the inspection or have a set price on a "CPO" (Certified Pre-Owned) 161-point inspection.

I'd recommend going to a Lexus dealer for the inspection for the obvious reason they know what to look for and as a bonus, they can pull up the maintenance history of the car.

Here's more info on CPO: http://www.lexus.com/cpo/overview/index.html

Good luck!

Thank you again that is a huge help. The only hesitation I have now is the FWD, I would really prefer AWD since we make multiple trips a year from TN to MI to see the in-laws. FWD is fine here but I would feel a lot better knowing I had AWD in the event of bad weather. I will report back here what happens tomorrow, thanks again!

You'll get 1 mpg better with FWD and with good A/S or winter tires, you'll be fine.

Decided to hold off and wait for the right AWD to come to my way.

I think your colleague was giving you a really good deal. We paid $35,500 a year ago for the same car, but CPO, with 32K on the clock. Personally, I don't think AWD is all it's cracked up to be. I drove our FWD on black ice, flat surface, very slowly, with no problems. New tires.

That would be an excellent deal. I recently purchased a starfire pearl, sports packaged, first year production 3gen RX w/ over 30k miles for $35k CPO(4 year/100k miles).

Although silver seems a bit dull for the rx. Good luck with the purchase! welcome to cl

Also a CPO inspection at a dealer is $250-$300.

Did you find what you were looking for? We used the lexus cpo search and looked at the whole country to get an idea of prices. The ones towards the bottom had much less wiggle room and were pretty close to market price I figured.

Using this approach we watched until we found a car we wanted near to us. Worked out well for us. Good luck!

I ended up with a different '11 with 30k miles for 26k. I had actually never considered a Lexus until I was randomly asked if I was interested in buying the one mentioned above. That one was sold but I'm very happy with my decision to wait and get th AWD

Thanks for taking the time for the follow-up report. It gives us closure. I think you got a wonderful price on a wonderful car.
