Default 33 mpg!

Ok, this isn't completely the whole story. But I did an experiment this morning. Took my 2014 RX350 with AWD on a 50 mile stretch of the Pa. Turnpike in Western PA. The road is basically flat with a few grades and curves. I reset my MPG computer into the toll booth and read it just as I exited about 50 miles later. I kept a fairly steady speed of 58MPH and was careful not to accelerate or decelerate too much too fast. Good weather with no need for A/C. At the end of the trip, the computer said "32.9MPG".

Now I realize this was a controlled experiment under almost ideal circumstances and with driving that would not normally be so sedate. Nevertheless, for a vehicle as massive as the RX, with AWD and on regular (87) gasoline, , to get 33MPG is amazing to me. For comparison/reference, I did a similar experiment with my 2009 LS460AWD and got about 1MPG less using 89 octane (even though the car really requires 91).

I'm not sure if this matters to anyone (even me!) really, but I thought I'd share my results.

I just heard on the news that a section of backed up traffic on the PA turnpike was starting to clear. There was some story abut a 'hypermiler' LOL. Seriously, good job . But your right, in the real world folks don't drive that way. You even beat my (h) which is hovering around 30mpg since delivery over 5 years ago .

Actually FWIW, when I did the test on my LS, it was near Philly. I wanted to go 55, but I really was causing traffic in that 70 MPH zone. So I compromised and went 60, and still had people blowing by me.

Just finished a 1100 mile trip on my new 2015 AWD RX350 on Highway 66 (currently Interstate 40) average speed 70mph and top speed for cruising is 75mph. Got 22mpg and I'm happy with that at "highway" speed on a V-6 engine with automatic and AWD.

I'll bet that improves as the vehicle breaks in

A couple of months ago I left Lake Tahoe and traveled down to the west to Interstate 5 to return home in So. Cal. The first 50 or 60 miles are all slightly or moderately downhill. During that stretch I got 36.5 MPG! After I returned to the flat highway reality set in. But it was fun seeing that kind of mileage for a little while.

My wife drives our RX we've never checked the mileage.
I cringed when I saw your initial "test" numbers.
Back in '03 I bought a new F250 4 X 4, 4 X doors, 8' box & a V10 gas engine to pull our new 31' travel trailer.
7mpg with the trailer fully loaded, 7 mpg without the trailer, 7 mpg uphill, 7 mpg downhill with a tail wind........etc..
Had an overhead console & a small display centre showing mileage. I kept it on Metric to show a substantially higher number @ 22 l / 100km. Talked myself into believing it was really mpg & felt better about it !
