2010 RX350 - Some MP3 music on USB Stick doesn't play
I have a 2010 RX350 and put a lot of MP3 songs on USB stick to play. Recently I have downloaded a lot of songs from Amazon in MP3 format and finding that some of the songs just don't play. I see the name of the song on the display and then it just passes over it and doesn't play.
I don't have Navigation on this vehicle.
I can take the same USB stick and put it in another car (newer) and it all the songs play fine.
Any ideas on why some MP3 files play and some don't?

boatracer,
I don't know why they wouldn't play, but since you have a 2010, which is a 3rd gen RX, I suggest posting this question there. They may be able to help you more than those of us with a 2nd gen RX.

If the songs are in sub-folders, that may be the problem. It may only read one level of folders.

There are certain MP3 file encodings that just won't play on a USB stick (things like if the bps stream rate is too high, etc.). I messed around with a USB stick on mine for several months gradually replacing songs with different MP3 codings to get them all to work. Whilst I'm normally an Android guy, I got handed to me a free functional iPod Touch with a shattered screen that I started using instead of the USB stick. I just leave it connected deep in the center console and haul it out once in a while to update the songs. The Apple interface is so superior to the USB interface that to be honest, toss the USB stick away and go hunt down a crappy old used iPod to use instead. For one thing, the Apple interface does not lock out when you start moving, like the USB interface. That alone makes it 100X better, plus add in the playlist functions and, frankly, it's a waste of time to use USB stick even for the biggest Apple hater.
Edit: I just re-read that you have non-nav, not sure the difference regarding Apple interface, but I'll add another point, the same MP3s that wouldn't play on the USB stick, once uploaded to my shattered iPod Touch, would play just fine.

The Goldwave program has a Files/Batch Processing option that will allow you to process all MP3 files in your library. I have used this option to normalize the volume on all of the mp3 files in my library so I know this option works.
