Tom558,
Thanks for the link to the Honda Maintenance Minder. There's a lot to it.

Think the easiest way to sum this thread up is that I can't recall seeing anyone who has used the recommended 10,000 mile threshold have any oil related issues. Anything under that is throwing money away. But preferences are preferences.

My daughter has a 2005 Cavalier which we bought in 2004. I have have been bugging her to get the oil changed for at least a year and a half. Finalyy she was over one day and I couldn't stand it any more and took it to Jiffy Lube. I was marveling at how well this 10 year old Chevy was running on the way over there. They put it up on the rack and soon called me over and told me there was very little oil in the car and insisted on flushing the engine. They did so, changed the oil and it has been fine since. The bottom line is I think most cars are capable of a lot longer oil change intervals.

Oh No!

The mention of jiffy lube or any fast quick oil change station makes me cringe.

I like to change my oil every month, regardless of the rationale...because i can afford it. Kidding!
At the end of the day, it's a toss between tons of research in engineering and your peace of mind.

If you feel like going with the every 3,000 miles " tradition" even though every evidence contradicts it, then go ahead..you'll sleep better at night.
There was an article before, ( i'll look for it again) which states that the 0w-20 ( synthetic oil we use in the RX) can go as far as 17,000 miles, so the 10,000 is a comfortable interval.
Good thing 2 vehicles in my garage don't require " oil change" anymore.

Personally, i only use bottled water to hand wash all my cars, i don't trust tap water anymore....again.. Kidding!

After reading all the responses I guess I will change it at 5000 miles instead of the 3000 miles. I then will change it every 10,000 miles after that, it just makes me feel better doing it that way.
Thanks everyone for all your input.
