Default 2010-2014 Interior lighting LED conversion

So I picked up my 2014 RX last week and came on here to find a LED conversion guide..there was plenty of threads/posts but information was scattered..links were dead..etc etc. So im making a somewhat updated one.

Before I start off I want to thank Kitlz for her great help. I wouldnt have done any of this without her knowledge. I may quote her on instructions shes sent me over the last few days..most instructions below were because of her.

Also to Papaalex for his original thread- you will find great info and photos there. but links to LED's are dead
(https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...white-led.html)

To begin..you guys need to know this total project so far has cost me near $200. V-Leds is a great company and well worth the money, your more than welcome to go on ebay and buy cheaper but dont get irritated when you have to swap them out.
Also this thread and pictures shown will be 5k LED bulbs, which is pure white..if you want a blueish hue go for 6k.

The photos i have posted arent the greatest..but it gives you an idea of the color and brightness. they are temporary until i take better ones

I HIGHLY RECOMEND USING A STURDY CREDIT CARD OR SMALL PLASTIC PRY TOOLS DO NOT USE ANYTHING METAL UNLESS YOU WRAP IT UP WITH TAPE!

FRONT DOME LIGHTS
Link: http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...-led/6-5k.html
Instructions: Be slow and take your time. Take the card and push it between the housing and cover to release the tabs. It might take moving/angling the card around a few times before it happens. Front dome has tabs around all four comers and windshield/moonroof side. But only a few need to be released before it comes loose. PULL THE BULBS RIGHT OUT DO NOT TWIST!
Picture:
[
B]REAR DOME LIGHTS(1 Bulb)
[/B]Link: http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...-led/6-5k.html
Instruction: Guys this will be the hardest one to mess with, there is very limited space to work with...GO SLOW. I had to use a credit card and a very thin plastic pry tool. For the first 5 minutes it probably wont budge..you just have to work on it, maybe even come back to it. You will see the tabs in the corners, just work on them. Once the cover is removed i recommend using a needle nose pliers (taped up for protection) to remove the bulb. When putting the LED bulb back into the housing you need to use quite a bit a force, just be careful dont mess up the actual bulb.

VANITY LIGHTS

Instructions: These are fairly easy, start at inner short side toward rear view mirror. The light housing drops and bulb is visible and easy to remove.
Picture:

FOOTWELL LIGHTS
Link:http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...-led/6-5k.html
Instructions: Easy also, tabs are on the side, just pop them out.
Picture:

BOTTOM OF DOORS

Instruction: Start with the short sides and slowly pop them out. Takes some wiggling around but will eventually pop out.

CARGO LIGHTS-3 Bulbs total. sold individually
Link: http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...29mm-3022.html
Instructions: Just pop them out on the opposite side of the switch. You may need to adjust the metal piece on the actual bulb housing for the bulb to work correctly(see this post: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/6067729-post14.html)
Picture:

REVERSE LIGHTS
Link:http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...79-1-pair.html
Instructions: Very easy. For my '14 model there was just a little square you pop out and bulb is right there. Be easy on the tabs going to the bulb though.

Thanks for the post. This is something I am sort of interested in, I just don't want to start messing with our RX when it is so new.

What lamp replacement got you the biggest bang for the bucks? Do you say, "I'm sure happy I did that." or any where you say, "I wish I hadn't wasted the time and money on that."

I would like the puddle lights to be brighter, but the change out I am the most reluctant to do is behind the side view mirrors.

Good to know the cargo change out is easy as I would think that is and area that would benefit from more light if the LEDs are brighter.

Thanks again for the tutorial.

since most of them are the same bulb i have to say the domes/footwells. they light up the car so much better and with a cleaner white color. It looks more "classy" at least to me.i will post photos ASAP. the puddles should be brighter than what they are now. but am not sure since i havent replaced yet. will keep updated.

Great job, greeknasty. I'm glad you survived the dreaded rear dome, LOL! Add the pictures and I'll post a link in the FAQ thread. Thanks for doing this and providing updated links. The other thread is great but has a bunch of outdated links and missing pictures. It didn't help that VLEDS changed their website and bulbs too.

Tom, go for it. I can't say one bulb is a must have. Changing them all makes the difference with the interior. It takes a few days to get used to the white light. But you'll appreciate how much better it looks and brightens up the interior literally. The LED bulbs for the puddle lamps are definitely much better than the OE ones. Sure, the cracking noise when separating the interior piece is heart attack inducing. The side view mirror case on the passenger side fell apart too. Don't worry, it all snapped back together just fine.

BTW, I've also changed the reverse lights, front and rear blinkers, fog lights (four times), DRLs and parking lights. I'd do it all again in a second.

Must be nice in that you probably have small hands to get into some of those tight spaces. Mine are not as nimble as they once were and have problems with many of the connectors.

Great pictures, vince. The LEDs are not as bright in my RXh with the black interior but it's definitely much better than the OE bulbs. Matching the door lights with the illuminated sills is also a nice touch.

Smaller hands It's not really an issue changing out most of the lights. My least favorite? The fog lights. I have to remove the cover under the engine and a few clips in the wheel wells to pull back the liners. Getting to the passenger side fog light is pretty simple. But trying to maneuver around the trans cooler on the driver side is tricky. Times like that I wish I had longer arms, or a 350 with all the extra space in front of the engine

couldnt you have gone through the fender liner in front of the wheel? fogs are next on my list and the tutorial i saw was going thru the fender liner in front of the tire. but thats the whole OEM setup..not sure if changing just the bulb is different

It's hard to reach the fog lights through the fender, at least in my 450h. Maybe I could if I had longer arms and was a contortionist I'll be curious to see if it's different for you since you have the spindle grill. The fogs look more recessed in the bumper. In case you were wondering, loosening the front part of the outer fender liner is not absolutely required since I get to the fogs from underneath. But there’s a horizontal cover in front of the wheel that’s actually part of the fender liner. I can move it slightly out of the way after I take off the cover under the engine. I get more room if I loosen the outer fender liner too. Fortunately I only have to do the driver side.

Here's a picture of the driver side fog light looking in from the front fender liner. As you can see it's crowded in there.

I'm sure it won't be hard. You can see the difference between my picture and the ones from 07LexusGuy. I have the trans cooler and more engine/wires. From the other threads I recall reading how 350 owners were able to reach down in front of the engine to change the fog light bulbs. Don't I wish! My 450h has zero room to do that.

BTW, I had an installer put in the HID fog lights (both sets). I changed the bulbs once but wound up having them removed. HIDs weren't for me. Now I'm back to halogen (non-OE).
