Default New Owner... almost! Words of Wisdom??

New Member here.

We're planning on picking up our very first Lexus tomorrow - a 2011 RX 350.

Before we pull the trigger on this deal, I'm wondering if anyone here has any last-minute words of wisdom for a newbie, be it cautions, warnings, or words of encouragement?

Thanks in advance,

-Nervous John

I own four. They all have been excellent!
I recently bought a 2010 RX 450h with 16K on the clock. Great!

My only comment is to enjoy! Don't be nervous, they're great vehicles!

Welcome to CL, John. I'll reiterate the part about enjoying your new RX and just add make sure you take a look at the manuals. It's a lot of reading but worth it. Plus it can also help with insomnia, LOL! Or do a search here. We have lots of useful information, some of which can be found in the FAQ thread. Finally, pictures are mandatory. Be sure to post 'em here with all the required information

The only thing to worry about is loss of sleep due to looking at it all night in the garage. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. We have the same car in Matador Red. We love it. Congratulations. Nervousness is normal. Johnny Carson said he was nervous before every show, and he did many shows. Please keep us posted.

Default Picking up '11 RX350

Chief21,
Bring your smart phones with you to have the tech pair them with the blue teeth.
Wife loves it for her business calls while en route to a meeting.
The manual says premium gas, but regular is OK. Won't hurt the engine.

Don't get the Nav. And make sure it has HIDs.

I'm on my second RX and still loving it. Current one is a 2013 and runs on regular gas which is a major bonus.

Good luck with your new (to you) ride!

Can you get a 2012 instead? 2011 uses premium and 2012 and newer ones use regulard unleaded.
Although you can still use regular on it, it will just lose some horsepower.

Congrats! I'm on my Third RX for obvious reasons so enjoy. Pairing the phone is a good suggestion as per Raylor4. Also check the tonneau cover, cargo net, and tire jack + wheel lock are there underneath the cargo floor cover. Check the rear seats are solid in place as some have had them rattle including myself. If you have NAV, ask for the latest maps.

Enjoy.

Curious: how much of a savings is a used Rx350 compared to a new one? Is it worth it? Thinking of picking one up as well, probably a 2011.

Average about 15K cheaper, like for like on major equipment, with a range in price depending on mileage and condition.

Used is worth it if you like to change vehicles often (i.e. every 2 years or so) since the biggest depreciation hit was already absorbed by the previous owner. If you want to keep it well beyond the warranty period (6+ years), you're better off buying new and pampering it over the years - it will last you a decade+.

Are you getting the vehicle from Lexus dealer? If yes, take a look at the Personalize Settings and ask them to reprogram anything you don't like with the current settings. Most of dealers only provide this type of services for new vehicles but they might program for you at no charge.
Good luck and congrats on an excellent choice.

Keys - two sets plus a valet key plus an emergency key
NAV - if it has NAV it needs a map update
LPS - make sure you get the ability to update the personalized settings for free

If AutoWay/AuotNation, run away.
