Default Changing key fob battery

Hi Everyone,

Getting a "Low Key Battery" signal on my dash when I turn off the RX...how do I change the battery? I don't want to break the fob or take it to Lexus where they will charge me an arm and a leg for something that I can do by myself...

Cheers

It is also shown in the Owner's Manual. Amazing how many individuals do not look there for answers.

To whom it may concern,
My dealer replaced my fob battery free, parts and labor, showed me how to do it, and gave me a second battery for my wife's fob. All with a smile and a handshake.
You may want to visit your Lexus parts department and see if you get the same treatment. I'll bet you do. And while you're there, help yourself to a free coffee for the road.
Hope this helps.

A little generosity from a dealer goes a long way to cultivate customer loyalty.

No doubt. Sometimes the simplest things can earn customers.

My coworker has an older GS. His fob battery went dead. He went to change it but the screw was stripped out and he couldn't get it opened. He ended up taking it to the closest dealer, which is not the dealer he bought it from or has it serviced at. The dealer changed it for him and didn't charge him. He is now a customer of this dealership.

Conversely my closest dealer wanted $10 for a battery and didn't stock my touch up color; I bought battery and touch up on Ebay and will continue driving 100 miles one way to a GREAT dealer......Some dealers care, so many do not!!

I agree, I am just too lazy when the answer usually lies at the click of a button (youtube)...

I bought 2 batteries for $7, added $2 and got a 2 year warranty with the batteries which will be replaced at no charge if they die...not bad...simple to do on your own...

If you read the maintenance requirements manual, replacing the key fob batteries is listed every 15K miles. So unless you're having your RX serviced elsewhere, the dealer is supposed to be doing it for you. I just change it every year myself.

Having worked Valet at a dealer that provided free key batteries myself, its always amusing to watch the look of horror when I split the key open to get to its internals. Some dealers do the free replacement if you ask so it wouldn't hurt in the future
