Default 2010 Rx 350. noise when shut off.

I heard noises like a small pump noise and a hissing air sound above the muffler area. The car had been sitting for hours and no key fob close to it. I was climbing under it looking at something else when I heard it. Sounds like a tiny electric motor running with an air hiss. Passenger side.any ideas? Just bought the vehicle last week. It has 27k miles on it. Had to replace battery the other day. Said battery was replaced a year ago. Wonder if this is hurting the battery? Start great in the morning. Vapor fuel pump? Please help. TKS

Yes, fuel vapor pump. Should come on five hours after shut down. Normal.
If your old battery was 4-5 years old, it was probably on it's last legs. Nothing to do with the tiny fuel vapor pump.
You didn't mention the year of the car or the conditions under which the battery served. Was the battery "in storage" with the car for over a year?.
I hope this is not a CPO car with a bad battery. Should not happen.

2010. 27k miles. Dealer said they had a record of the battery being changed last year. It was an AAA battery. I just got the car and the ford dealer would not pay for a battery.
says wear and tear. I needed it quick. Paid $108 at O` Reilly. Didn`t find out until today at the dealer they would have given me a new one. Shucks. PS I see that the fuel vapor motor running is normal. Should have bought it from Lexus but thought I got a good deal at Ford. $28k. No nav.2wd. Great shape. Tks.

I have a 2010 with 36k and the original battery. Always garaged but thinking of a new one as a preventive matter. Only $85 at Costco.
My father has a 2010 ES350 with 28k and is on his 3rd battery. He has constantly had drained battery issues as he does not drive it that often such that he got a battery tender to keep it going!

I think your dad has a small short that's draining the battery, or he's not driving it enough to keep it charged. I would say if he's letting the car sit for a month at a time, that would drain the battery somewhat, then if he only drives five minutes or so to the store, the battery is not getting fully charged.
In the old days, before alarms, one could disconnect and reconnect the battery and look for a spark. That would indicate a static (power off) short, draining the battery. Nowadays, you can't do that because that process sets off the alarm. Dang!
Good luck.
