All, Newbie here.

Looking to make a deposit on a 2010 RX450h with 51K miles.
This one comes with - Heads up display (HUD), Mark Levinson Sound System, Factory installed Dual Screen Entertainment, Navigation.

Questions:
1. Dealer quoted (not lexus, this is a MB dealer) about $4K for 4 years, 50K miles warranty. Could you please recommend names of vendors you used to purchase warranties?
2. Since the car has 50K miles, what parts/components should I get checked?

As the vehicle you are looking at is beyond the Basic Warranty from Lexus any warranty you would be looking at would be from a third-party. Many of those are not worth the paper they are written on. The advice of many here is to just avoid them.

Any used vehicle purchase, no matter who is selling it, should be thoroughly inspected by an independent mechanic to look for any potential problems. You will pay for this inspection, however, you will also have some peace of mind.

Check your Lexus dealers.........a CPO can be 5yrs old and up to 60K with a great warranty.

Welcome to CL, bostong8r. I can understand the appeal of the RX450h you're looking at. It is nicely equipped. But that aftermarket warranty from the MB dealer is too much. Are you absolutely set on getting the RXh and the warranty? Like RX330inFL mentioned, aftermarket warranty companies fold all the time. My sister had it happen to her Lexus CPO vehicles come with an additional 3 years/up to 100,000 miles of coverage. Sure, it may be one year less but is it worth saving $2K+? Plus all CPO vehicles have been thoroughly inspected and are up to date on all maintenance. My RX330 was sold CPO at 6+ years and >51K miles.

Or you could always bank the $4K and save it for any repairs you may need down the road (sorry for the bad pun). There are varying opinions on this (already covered in other threads). I just wanted to put it out there.

Update as of this evening.

Wife vetoed the 450h purchase saying DVD is s distraction.
So, ended up buying a 2010 RX350 with NAV with 26K miles, CPO from Lexus dealer for $30k exact.
Hope this is a good deal. According to KBB this is a good deal. So, went for this deal.
