Manheim Auction Numbers
I just settled on a leftover 2013 RX 450h and traded my 2010 450h which I bought in October 2009. In the process of doing my research I obviously hit all of the internet sites seeking to value my trade. My vehicle was in above average condition, although I used the "clean" valuations and had just under 50k miles.
I was somewhat amazed when the dealer's offer was lower than the lowest of all the values I could find. The dealers offer included an extra $1000 bonus trade in (better known as a marketing ploy!) as part of their December to Remember. When I pressed him on why his number was low he gave me a printout that showed the details of the last 14 2010 RX 450h's to go through Manheim. (I happen to live just several miles north of Manheim, not that that means anything!).
There is too much information to put all the individual vehicle transactions here but here is some info that I compiled that might be of interest:
Time period: 11/14 - 12/09/2013
Number of Vehicles: 14
Price High/Low/Average: $34,250 / 24,900 / 28,050
Mileage High/Low/Average 64,804 / 21,370 / 47,302
One was considered above average condition and one below. The remaining were all average. 6 came off lease with the rest coming off dealer lots.

Yep, all the online "used car value" sites (KBB, NADA, Edmunds, etc.) have been waaay off the mark lately--at least that's been my experience for the last several years. Used car managers will ONLY give you what they claim they can buy a car "just like your's" for at auction. That's usually several thousand below any online wholesale value, and you can't do a thing about it. Of course, they always ask full retail for their vehicles, new or used.
It's a well-known fact that most car dealers make much more profit on their used cars than their new cars. Your only option is to try & sell your car private party & then take the cash down to buy your next car.
