Default Roof Rack Rubber Stoppers

I want to mount my skis this year on the roof the only issue is the 2 bars are to close. I noticed their is rubber stopper at each end. can these be removed? Also how? And if anyone know why are they there in the first place please? I included pictures. Thanks

They are mentioned in the manual, but no explanation for use and doubt they have to be that long.

I pop them out with no issue. I stick a plastic stick behind them and pull them outward. Putting them back in is as simple as pushing them into place. They are there to keep the racks from hitting the front and rear covers. I take them off when I put my ski racks on and move the front cross bar forward. Just make sure you tighten the cross bars.

I was just looking at the same thing on our new RX today. It's nice to have this forum.

I have a new RX and just purchased a Thule cargo bag. I notice that the crossbars are much too close together so I would like to take out the rubber stoppers when I use the bag.

Has anyone put a Thule bag on the top? Is it advisable to remove both stoppers? Even without the stoppers the bag will go over one of the crossbars. How has it worked for you?

Worked well no problems here. I removed the front rubber strip. I had originally thought it was so the sunroof tilt operation wouldn't be affected, but the crossbars are high enough to clear the sun roof, so to be honest I have no idea why the strips are their in the first place.

I removed them on my old 2006 RX400h to make my Thule box work. I haven't looked yet to see if my 2010 RX450h will need the same modification.

I was removing the cross rails in the dark. Thought I had to completely remove the thumb screws. After some trial and error I figured out the cross rails had to slide out the back. One problem wasI did not put the thumb screws back in and lost the backing nut the thumb screws thread into. Similar to another member who was looking to replace a thumb screw I now need the backing nut. Any ideas?

I just wanted to move/adjust my cross bars last weekend. Unfortunately, they're fastened so tight I can't get them loose. Yikes. Didn't think I was THAT weak...

Look closely in the roof rack "slots" they may still be there. I would think that the nuts slide through the rack slots and would be captured in the slots. I think you have to remove the rear portion of the roof racks to slide the rails out, so the nuts may have to be removed the same way?
