Default locking doors while walking away with fob in pocket

this may be obvious but I can't find an answer so here is my query:

I have a 08 corvette that allows you to walk away from the car with the fob in your pocket and the car locks without having to touch anything once the fob is a certain many feet away from the car. I like that option and I cannot figure out how to do it on my wife's 2013 RX ( or even if it will work that way)

I don't drive her car that much but it seems inconvenient to have to remember to touch the little depression area on the outside driver handle to lock the car. I know, I could just get used to it , but just walking away without having to do something seems more simple and should be an option in a car of this cost and technology.

Sorry if I have missed the obvious, but is it possible to program the car to lock all doors when I walk away with the fob and not having to touch anything on the car?

thanks guys

Was wondering the exact same thing too today. Don't think the RX has this option though.

Don't know of any Lexus that does this.

Right. Not available in the RX. You need to touch the impression on the door handle to lock the car as you walk away, or push the button on the FOB.

thanks guys... it was wishful thinking but I guess I will have to get used to every one of my vehicles doing it differently.

And there's been times when I get into a rental car and start reaching for the remote start button to only realize it requires a key. It goes both ways. Maybe you should start pressing the door handle on your Corvette just like the RX. It'll become second nature in no time

One thing that does happen, if you unlock the car door but don't open the door, it will lock itself within 30 secs

Many cars do this. My old Jetta did it. My Altima does this too. I get why it happens but sometimes it's annoying.

How lazy are we getting? LOL!

Personally, i need confirmation that the car is locked before i step away.
This is why i appreciate the folding mirrors on the 2013 compared to our previous model.
I also like the confirmation beep and lights when touching the handle to lock the car.

I agree with you, Mark. I'm happy with the way my 2013 RX450h key, FOB, doors, handles, mirrors, and audio/visual alerts work together.
...perhaps part of that is because I've owned Lexus since 1995, and the way each has worked has been similar. Sometimes there are refinements and tweaks in new models, but generally for the better. I appreciate having a limited number of options how things can be customized, as I like the generally well-thought out set of tweaks that can be made, vs having so many options it becomes overly complex and bloated (I could insert a couple analogies here as to why I switched from PC/Windows to my Mac/OSX environment a couple years back because of that, or that Lexus and some of us here on CL have a big enough problem already with owners that don't read or complain about the lengthy manuals. ) For the last few years I've also had a 2nd mfgr vehicle in my stable -- most recently my 2014 MBZ. I went into that knowing some things would operate differently between my two vehicles -- IMO, some for the good, some for the bad, and some differences that just keep me on my toes as I switch between the two.

Sort of agree with the OP but not out of couch potato syndrome. My GS has the Viper system installed and will automatically lock itself after 10 seconds or so. Have gotten used to this and keep forgetting that it's not OEM for the RX. Have been times that I've come back to the RX and found that it's been unlocked while sitting on the street all night. Not smart at all for NYC living.

Would seem like its not too much of a programming hassle to lock the doors if the vehicle is off and the FOB goes 'out of range'

Most times I forget to lock if I'm at the rear and removing stuff and don't walk back to the handle or press FOB (because arms are full of stuff). Close trunk of the GS, walk away, Viper locks car. Still trying to teach myself that RX is not the GS.

Different strokes

Yes, the mirrors folding in is our confirmation that the car is locked.

We don't mind touching the door handle to lock the RX but I can see the advantage to the walking away and the car locking automatically.

This would also address my only issue with the locking system. I don't want to have to wait for my wife to get out of the car and close the door before I can lock it. I want to simply push the "button" on the door handle, have the car to wait for the passenger door to close, and the lock all of the doors. Instead, the car screams at me for 30 seconds to tell me it didn't lock. To me, this is ridiculous. Waiting until we walk away with the fob also solves my issue

I too appreciate the folding mirror feature on our 2010.

'13 's have a button at the back to the right of the lift handle to lock so you don't have to find a side handle...
