RX 450h Sirius intermittent no signal
I just bought a certified 2011 RX 450h and my sirius keeps going back and forth to no signal for no reason. I've had sirius for 9 years in other cars and it's never had this bad of reception. It's at the dealer now but the loaner 2013 RX350 they gave me does the same thing. None of my other cars perform this way on these same roads. Has anyone had this poor reception problem and if so what has been done to remedy?

The satellite signal is directional and very susceptible to signal blockage from trees and buildings. Nearly every day that happens to me on a certain route w/trees near the road. Possible that's what you have going on.

I traded in a Highlander Hybrid for my RX, and found that the RX holds the signal better than the Highlander did. There are some overpasses that I can now make it completely through without a dropout.

I have the same issue on my 2013 RX450h, I just got rid of a BMW 750Li and it would lose it under bridges but that was the only place. My wife has a Yukon that only loses signal in tunnels and my Lexus loses it in places I've never had issue at before, simple trees seem to degrade the signal.

The further north you go the more touchy reception gets due to the satellite being lower in the sky. When we drove to Canada two years ago I often lost signal due to high hills, or even tall trees, to the south of the vehicle. It's just the nature of satellite reception.

Same issue here with XM in my 2013 RX. It cuts out much more often than the XM radio in our 2010 HS and also more than the XM in the 2007 GMC that I had prior to the RX. In my case it is the trees doing it near our house---the other radios work fine under the same trees.
My guess is that it has something to do with the shark fin, although the fin appears to be the same as on the HS.

I can't accept that my Lexus Sirius won't perform as good as my other cars
I'm hearing that many of you have experienced the same issues. Are any of you working with your dealer to resolve? I'm not satisfied with continual drop outs.

I have my first service appointment Monday and will mention this problem, although I doubt they can/will be able to do anything.

I'm just not going to buy the service when my trial period is over. I like the concept of satellite radio, but it's way overpriced, the sound quality is not that good, and it drops out too much. Internet radio like Pandora provide a better experience at a much lower cost.

I am just back from the service visit. Of course, they "couldn't duplicate the problem"!!! However, the SA did say that he was told that they were "working on" an improved antenna and if/when it became available, he would contact me to replace my existing antenna with the new one. At least my complaint is documented with the dealer including the service difference between the 2010 HS and the 2013 RX. I guess we need to "stay tuned"! <----pun intended!
