Default New Vled blinkers - now tooo fast?

For those who have replaced their blinkers with Vleds, did they notice the blinkers now blink 3x faster? Wondering if this happens to everyone, and if they leave it alone, or possibly install a device that slows down the blink rate?

The reason why it blinks at a quick rate is due to the minimized load on the lighting circuit. You have two choices leave it as is which is 100 percent normal or install the correct resistor for the desired look.

Yep, makes perfect sense...the blinker box is designed for a fixed amount of resistance at a given load, and obviously these LED's have much less draw. In addition, they prob. are a pulsed signal, which is part of the reason for their super long life span. The pulse rates are well beyond what the human eye can detect. Its possible this might burn out the blinker mechanism faster than expected, but that's no biggie...

At first, the blink rate was annoying, as we get so conditioned to a "normal blinker rate" for years...but as I am adjusting to it, I see a few benefits. Faster blinking = more light in the area... (due to the persistence during the "off" ) and at this rate of blinking, it sure gets other drives attention at night... (a good thing IMO) much less noticeable daylight, of course.

I installed load resistors on the front and the rear since I have LED front and rear. They do take it back to a more normal blink rate. They are not that much money and easy to install. The rears are little more difficult though.

This is not a Civic hatchback, this is a 40K+ car. I highly suggest getting a pair of 3ohm load resistors to get them blinking at a normal rate. One will take care of front and rear on one side. V-LEDs sells them pretty cheap and with t-taps you don't have to cut into your wiring.

Comet... I am on the fence about this, as the fast blinkers sure get attention, which is a nice safety feature... From your comment, u feel the fast blink rate "cheapens" the car? If so, I never considered that... Now that I am adjusting to it, it appears high tech to me :-)

Since it sounds like you have done this before.... can I slow the blink rate down a bit, but yet still faster than original rate? Where exactly are the resistors installed? Between bulb and socket? TYIA

hyperblinkers - it's not a bug, it's a feature =P

But seriously, it's more for lazy/unknowledgeable tuners and not for RXers. I'd scrap the LEDs and get "silver amber turn bulbs" off ebay. I bought 6 - four for all four corners and two spares.

^^I agree. Try Philips or Stealth for chrome bulbs. They're halogen so no fast blinking after installation. But I'm sure the VLEDS bulbs weren't cheap so that might not be practical at this point

ericsan13, I bought three sets too, not for a spare though. Turns out the front blinker bulb size is wrong in the manual. My guess is it has something to do with the LED headlights. So two sets were Philips, the third Stealth.

Here's info from the FAQ thread. There's more if you do a search. The chrome bulbs are not any brighter than OE. It's all about losing the orange glow when off. And not having to worry about problems with LED bulbs.

Anita, what problems have surfaced with LED's? I thought they were bulletproof?

They are. I was just referring to the problems you're experiencing now. The other was with DRLs. I want plug and play and prefer not to mess around to make it work right though I know there's ways to do it.

OK, I hear ya....
If I have the time, I should write a post regarding my LED conversion....it was the furthest thing from Plug n Play... many bulbs did not fit, many had LED's facing the wrong direction, I modified many to make them fit, some are nearly impossible to access, at least on my 13 RX350 FWD, F Appearance...the front Halogens were impossible to "reach down" and access them, took half the botton of the car off, finally gave up...might let dealer do it....car was jacked up 30"....

An average joe wouldn't know if the car came with LED's or not and just assume you had a burnt out bulb or a malfunction.

I used to have a TL and did LED turn signal in front and rear. I just installed 3ohm in the trunk one for right nd left very easy to do. I would imagine the easiest place for the RX is to place them in the rear.

The RX DIY thread was the first place I went to when I join CL. No need to reinvent the wheel - there are not a lot of mods that can be done to the RX so searching the forums makes your life a lot easier.
