I think the opposite is true. Where I live my city has taken down most of there red light photo cameras due to an INCREASE in accident fatal or non fatal accidents sinces it operation for over 5 years.

.
Sorry about your accident.

Can you say what City you live in? I would love to review those accident reports.

I'm getting ready to trade in my RX and was having a estimate done. They found a curb scrape on one of my wheels I didn't even know was there. They docked me $100 for that plus $400 for some paint scratches.

Im on first name terms with my dealer though - bought the car and the 3 year service package and they know I trade in extremely well looked after cars bar the odd scratch so they give me a really good price

Had to break out the hose even though there's a storm on the way. I couldn't stand being salty and dirty anymore. Plus it's a balmy 35 degrees around here

The accident was in Lowell, MA... though the police report doesn't say much. The other driver was cited for traffic violation. Just got word finally that the other insurance is taking 100% responsibility. So now just getting car fixed... latest quote was over 13K! In shop for next month....

Yurka, how are your black painted wheels holding up? They look to be in good shape in the pics.

We have the same thing in the UK with lease deals. An independent body inspects the vehicle on return (on behalf of the supplier/manufacturer) and then invoices for any damage outside their interpretation of 'fair wear and tear'. They have a rigid checklist they go through.

Their favourite charges are ... Kerbed (curbed) wheels are charged at £85 (about $130), uneven tyres at £120 ($184) and scratches vary.

I had a Mercedes on lease and when I returned it they gave me a bill of £460 ($700), but I argued with them that their terms showed the costs were unfair and it was reduced to £290 ($445). The main charge was a new windscreen as I'd had a chip repaired (which was as per their T&Cs) but they insisted on a new screen because I had not sought their approval when getting the chip repaired (so it was unauthorised). There was no mention in any paperwork that I needed to get approval, but I decided to just pay the reduced bill and move on after two months of emails bouncing back and forth.

In the UK most lease deals see the car returned (no option to buy) so the manufaturers want it back in a condition to roll it straight into a showroom - and they want the person who has owned the car to pay for that. The Mercedes was my first lease (on the advice of my accountant) but I won't ever take another.

I think this is one reason why dealer PCP (Personal Contract Purchase) deals are growing in popularity in the UK. They give you the option to hand the car back (you then get charges for any work same as lease), buy outright or trade in against a new(er) vehicle. If you trade in the dealer pretty much ignores vehicle mileage and condition of your 'old' vehicle.
