Default Replacing drivers armrest with a flat tray?

Hi,
My wife drove a Toyota Sienna during the holidays and is now asking why we have to have a cushion (armrest pad) above the centre storage console instead of a tray to put stuff on like the Sienna. Has anyone seen a mod where the factory armrest pad has been replaced with a large flat tray of the same size? It won't look like the image below, but it shows the concept, getting a tray instead of a pad!

Thanks

I agree with cossie1600 , but if you must (happy wife, happy life), go to your local dollar store, buy a picnic tray (of course to her style and liking), and velcro it onto the arm rest. That way it's not permanent, you're not making any damage/holes, and you can still use the existing console. Here's photochop example of hopefully what it doesn't turn out to be .
