I recently purchased a 2010 RX350. What a great car. For those of you who have and use NAV traffic, I have a question. I've been told that you will get warnings 9 miles ahead of a traffic incident or heavy congestion. If this is true, do you get it only while you are being guided by the navigation system, or do you get it without engaging the NAV guidance?

it only works when using route guidance. good reason to use route guidance all the time even going on a route that you've traveled thousands of times.

Thanks for the information. Not what I wanted to hear. I was hoping that alerts would pop up on the NAV system without being in the guidance mode. I agree that is a good reason to use it even when you don't need the guidance. Thanks

nav traffic works by telling you what's on your route. it will say something like "slow traffic five miles ahead". if it's not in guidance mode, it would have no idea which direction you are headed.

If you have your NAV Traffic toggled on and are in an area that shows it you can zoom out on the map to see the color of the road (green/gold/red) to determine the condition ahead of you. I live about 30 miles north of the Atlanta perimeter and zoom out to see what the perimeter looks like on the North end and can take an alternate route to get where I'm going if it's 'red'.

Make sure you set Nav to "automatically reroute" in advanced Nav settings, or she'll just lead you right in to it...

Thanks Cruiter. That is excellent advice. That's the kind of thing I am looking for. Something that will tell me when there is heavy traffic in an area without having to use the navigation system for guidance. When you say I should have my NAV Traffic toggled on, I'm not sure what you mean. Is there anything I have to do to turn it on? I don't recall any setting for this. Also, I do have auto avoidance turned on.

Nav traffic is on automatically. Look for the picture of three cars towards the upper left corner of the screen. Scrolling out gives you the highways with corresponding colors. Green means flowing, red is traffic. It'll also show accidents and construction.

I've only had a few warnings in route. It was well in advance and after my exit so I didn't get rerouted. Wish it would tell me what roads are blocked by fallen trees and wires right now

I have a quick question along the lines of NAV traffic. Is it just in the Denver area that it's inaccurate, or do reports seem to run really behind actual issues elsewhere, too? I've never had an accurate report of traffic, and have learned to ignore the warnings that don't coincide with typical rush hour traffic.

I'm guessing it's just a Denver thing.

I live in south central Pennsylvania and have taken numerous trips to Toronto and one trip to Florida. Between all of the trips I must have received at least 75 warnings about slow traffic, blocked lanes, or accidents ahead and NOT once was it accurate!!

I found the app on my iPhone more accurate so I decided not to subscribe to the traffic.
