Smile A senior Lexus tech/mechanic went with me on a test drive

We rode around town and I tried to duplicate past situations where my RX 350 would hesitate on a gas pedal input. I did not get a real good example. After a few miles he said I had somewhat of a habit of left foot on break pedal while right foot on gas pedal, which may confuse the computerized system as to "accel" or "brake?" Seems to make sense to me, and I have tried to avoid this anomaly. I now have fewer situations of the hesitation on acceleration.

Default Throttle hesitation

I have a 2015 RX 350 with 4,600 miles on it. This is the fourth or fifth RX 350 I have leased for my wife. This is the second one that has had a throttle hesitation. Last night, after driving for 25 minutes on the highway, I took the off-ramp, took my foot off the gas pedal and slowed down into the turn. The turn merged with another off ramp and I needed to speed up quickly to move in front of an oncoming car. There was a demonstrable pause in the acceleration that all passengers felt. My guess is I had slowed to around 40-50 mph and then tried to accelerate. This is not the first time and it is, to put it mildly, very disconcerting. I have read that this may be due to the six speed electronic transmission trying to figure out what gear to grab onto or having to make a 2-3 gear change.

Any concrete input will be greatly appreciated. Perhaps the solution is to keep the transmission in manual, which my wife would definitely not do. Has Lexus recognized this issue and do they have a solution?

Thank you.

I think it's just the lazy automatic, I usually pop it into sport during a merge on the highway or if I know I want it more responsive since it seems to ignore the overdrive gears 5 and 6.

I had to "step on it" this morning to merge and RPM went to about 4K and just a slight hesitation. I have forgotten the solution of putting it in S5 when going on the on ramp which worked for me before.

Try the S5 and see if it works for you.

I have a 2011 Rx350 and it does have an hesitation when accelerating from 6th gear in normal shift mode.

It do not inspire confidence in its ability to do a quick passing maneuver on the highway since the acceleration lag is long.

Sport mode shifting does better, but really burns gas and kill the gas mileage.

However, sport mode is pretty responsive and make passing on the highway a bit more predictable.

The issue becomes even more severe if I have to lower speed in the traffic from 50 to 30 and then try to accelerate - car does not move at all! This is my third RX and fifth Lexus all together and I've never had such a problem before. Not to mention American cars like Bonneville...Any suggestions?
Stop driving the car! You need to get the shift solenoids checked out and replaced. You are destroying the gearbox.!

Dear Moisture!
I'm glad and appreciate you input very mach! It is too sad, that it took almost ten years to cross ways with somebody, not just so knowledgeable, but willing to share.
Lexus dealer has never admitted.
Since then I upped my RX lease 3 times: now I'm with RX350 - 2020.
Issue, which I've originally reported, was never resolved.
2013 model did not have this problem, but in 2016 and 2020 models car sometimes got stuck in the lower gear during rapid acceleration. I have to let go pedal little bit to shift.
At least it accelerates, not getting stalled. Which is not so bad.
Once again - appreciate your help.
Have a nice New Year!

If the problem persists you need to find a transmission shop as soon as possible.
