Default Smog Check

2010 RX450h
Does the dealer have to do the smog check because it is a Hybrid or can any Smog Check place take care of it?

The RX450h is exempt from Smog checks here in California.

Mine will be due next Jan and I don't have a clue how they'll do it unless they just read info from the computer data base. The 1st three years were exempt in GA because it's a hybrid.

Same here in AZ. 5 years before the smog check. That's when I trade it in. Have no idea about the hybrid. I don't see why the hybrid would be different it still has a gas engine, still has the possibility of polluting.

All hybrids are currently exempt from the Smog Certification Program in California

because if you ever look at a smog check report, it lists the amount of CO2 and other gasses when the car is at idle, and at a certain RPM, I believe like 2500. Given that the engine remains off at idle and also does not have an RPM meter, then I dont see how it would work

Correct; this is one of the nice things about owning a hybrid in CA.

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't CA have a smog program that if you fail a smog test, you can then apply for assistance for it to be repaired and pass smog?
has anyone gone through this?

Low income owners can get up to $500 in repairs done at a CA authorized facility. The facility, not the owner receives the payment for the work. This is often not enough to bring a car back into compliance, but can be helpful.
