Default Vehicle Disappears After Cruise Control Activation

For my 2011 RX-350 AWD, why is it that whatever vehicle status display I setup between the technometer and the speedometer disappears when I activate the cruise control?? Is this by design or is there an issue here?

It's by design. You can still toggle between screens by using the control on the steering wheel.

Not really. I have the laser cruise control so it's kinda neat to watch the car and the bars. I can't use it very often by me though because of the congestion.

it's a another reminder to the driver that he's in cruise control.. if ever he misses the " cruise control icon" or don't know what the icon looks like.
i agree with everyone, i don't like it.
i prefer to see the MPG instead.

Yes, I find it annoying also. Why not just have a separate vehicle figure that lights up like most other vehicles do, even Toyotas do that. I like to always have my "cruising range" display on, and when driving on trips using the cruise control, I end up having to toggle to get back to the cruising range. Don't like it!

Mine goes to "Set" to prompt setting the distance for the auto-follow feature (or whatever its called) that I don't have. I just flip down on the control lever on the right side of the steering wheel to return to the display I had set up. It IS annoying!

Default By Design

Actually it is by design. It took me a while to learn the way the engineers think but they did have logic in mind. Always there will be the temp, sometimes other info but the mostly blank screen will indicate at least temp and cruise if activated.

Also when a service (such as oil change) is immanent, that place is one of the screens that will try to get your attention. A week ago mine was notifying me of that and made itself an additional message screen as I scrolled through. With just your thumb, you can make it any screen you want (that's available) w/o any real effort.

I guess I'm starting to get inside the minds of the designers and sort of like the way they work .

Default I don't want to think like a Lexus designer

So I also vote against this "feature".

Has anyone found a way to bypass this feature ?
i usually keep in cruising range and it a pain to see it disappear once you set the cruise control 🙄

Yes. This is actually a feature and is engineered this way... for those that have radar cruise control.
Germans would have added a few lines of code to handle for such scenario, while Japanese prefer more reliable minimalistic approach, just leaving the screen blank.
You can always press the down arrow on the steering wheel and get your range display back.
