I'm thinking of trading my 2010 RX in and getting one with the Nav package. I can find online the price differential for the 2013, but not for the 2010. Is it about $8000? I want to make sure this type of trade makes sense financially i.e. I don't want to go paying an additional $10k.

@ BatmobileX , are you doing a straight swap? another 2010 RX 350 with Nav?
the thing is, when you get the Navigation, there's usually some added options to it ( Premium package, Comfort package, etc).
then there's the milage of your RX and the one that you're getting..
is it really a good deal to have an RX 350 with 60,000 milage just to get a Navi?
those are things you need to consider.

since the Dealer will definitely low ball you..you're looking at least $6,000.
the best route here is to sell your RX YOURSELF and buy another RX 350 with Navi.

The NAV option on my 2010 450h was $2,465 on the sticker. NAV may have also required the premium and comfort packages so you may need to add their costs if your car does not have them. Premium was $2,400 and Comfort was $825. These prices would be the upper limit because on used cars you are not going to recover the full cost. You can go to kbb.com and use the used car pricing tools to check used prices on 2010 RX's with various options that you specify (they also show private party, retail, Lexus CPO pricing). If I had to guess, I would expect the cost of the car to be about $4,000 more (maybe as little as $2,000 more if your car has a lot of options) ... but, use the tools to find the real numbers. Of course the dealer needs to make a profit, so a swap is going to include thousands of dealer profit on top of the actual difference in value.

Yeah I had thought of selling my RX myself but you do get a break on the sales tax when you do a trade.

I live in a city with a high crime rate, so in today's world, selling an upscale car myself would not be the safest proposition. Your environment might be different. Be safe.

Yes that certainly is a consideration, plus there is also the convenience of being able to swap one car out for the other, not having to put up the money for the new one and hang around trying to sell the old one, etc. There are a bunch of reasons why I would probably choose to sacrifice a bit of cash just for the ease of doing a straight swap.

I would suggest looking at moving up to a new 2012 0r a 2013 RX. It shouldn't cost you much over your esiimate of $8000.00. You then acquire a new model with 0 miles and have new warranty plus an updated nav system. The price just to update a nav system would be approx $250.00 right now. Also you would get new tires, and less maintenance cost.
The least expensive route is to keep your 10 RX and buy a new Garmin nav system with lifetime updates and traffic. That way there will be no additional cost for updates etc and you have a warranty on the system for at least a year.
Good luck,
Jim

Yes I thought of getting a Garmin, TomTom, etc. but I just can't get past the added clutter on the dash and the cord hanging down and plugged into the cigarette lighter.

The Garmin fits quite nicely in front of the screen. Just get one of those sand bag type holders and your good to go. You can also store it underneath the console when your not using it. In addition you can actually enter a destination while driving unlike the built in NAV. If you must have built in then by all means get a new RX because then you will have Lexus enform which will allow you to call Lexus while driving and they will download your destination to the car. This service is free for a year!

Okay so the dealer called and has my car. Only problem is with the navig and DVD package, it has 19 inch wheels which I don't want. Any reason why I can't swap out the 19 inch wheels for the 18 inch ones on my car?

Actually the 19" wheels are a bonus and you'll get better handling. If they have the Michelin's mounted on them, that's bonus x2

I've heard the 19 inch are less smooth and poorer gas mileage?

2 additional questions:

1) This car it turns out has running boards. I don't know, looks kind of ghetto. I suppose they are removable?

2) Also very important. There are DVD players in the headrests. Does this mean the headrests are not removable and/or the seat cannot be folded down flat? The reason I ask is I need to be able to do that as I have been doing.

My dealer told me 19inch has negative reviews
My dealer also told me that the 2010 NAV does not update itself as it is not synced to satelite and you have to manually do it
I purchased a 2010 rx today without NAV and going to use the Garmin LMT i got on sale 2 months back and I absolutely love
My dealer told me that Navigation ends up being $1000 - $1400 more than a car without NAV
GOODLUCK
