Default 2013 Lexus RX Wrecked

Sister wrecked her 2013 Lexus RX. She was going 50, wasn't paying attention and slammed into the f-250 infront of her, airbag saved her and her passengers life. The passenger seat turned sideways, is it suppose to do that?
800mi on the odometer ;-(

I feel sorry for her ... I'm sure she feels bad. 800 miles; I think that is record around here.

I'm so happy everyone survived, shows what the car is made of in a 50mph crash. The quarters even stayed in the coin tray. Wow, I'm really impressed. The car is done, but I'm sure after the insurance company sells it for scrap a lot of parts will turn up on the market.

Who was looking for a mirror a while back ???

First, it's very fortunate that everyone survived the incident.

However, i really feel strongly that collision warning system ( automatically deccelerate your vehicle if it senses you will be in a collision) should be standard in Luxury cars/SUVs.
Forget the LED running lights, safety features should come first.

Not so sure the car is done. I bet the insurance company would spend $30,000 to avoid paying $50,000 for a new one.

That sucks, but at least everyone is alright. You can always replace the car.

Hopefully it's totaled, because after all of that damage, the best body shop in the world won't be able to get back to how it was when it came off the assembly line.

That would put the repair cost over 50% of the value. They don't like to do that. And if the seat is sideways that probably means the pan buckled at least some, maybe a lot. It's designed to deform as part of the energy absorption.

Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. Sorry for your sister's misfortune, but seeing how the passenger compartment remained mostly undamaged gives me a lot of confidence in its safety features. I presume with her replacement vehicle, she will remember to keep her eyes on the road or opt for the collision avoidance system.

The Lexus dealer said that they have no parts, and everything has be special ordered because of the redesigned front, we than received a call from the gm saying that this is going to cost your insurance a lot of money.

Unfortunately, the insurance company will probably repair it. When my daughter was learning to drive she did similar damage to an ES and they put it all back together in a little over a week.

I could be wrong (was once), but if you have a topnotch insurance company I'd bet on a replacement car in your future. They'll start figuring out the cost of a new dash and innards (almost always when air bags deploy), and a whole front clip (fenders, bumper parts, lights, etc.) stretching it out (hopefully it will be straight and no broken or cracked welds), maybe a new floor pan, labor, paint and a replacement car might be cheap. They can part the car out from engine/tranny, wheels, seats, even catalyst, etc and recoup a lot.
