When we're driving back down from Jacksonville we were side by side for the majority of the trip and the only thing different about the drive back down was we were doing 80-100 MPH (as oppose to driving up 70-80MPH)and we stopped in Palm beach county off PGA blvd for gas which is 80 miles from miami I still had 92Miles left on the tank and he had 68Miles left on the tank.

he's never put 93 on his cars so i don't know, but one thing is for sure i get way better mpg then he does.

Did not see the exact miles/gallon figures you calculated, but based on miles difference in the tank, it appears there is a 1 to 1.5 gallon difference in gas left in the 19 gallon tank (based on getting ~ 24 MPG on the highway). This would translate into a 5 to 7.5 % difference, or a difference of ~ 1.5 MPG using the premium. The difference in price of premium vs. regular is
~ 6 % if one assumes gasoline regular is $ 4.00/gallon while premium is $ 4.25/gallon. Almost looks like a wash as far as difference in price paid for premium vs. difference in increased MPG overall.

We can sit down and talk about 87 vs 93 all day long and as many years as I have been on forums from My.is, My350z, Clublexus, and so on and so fourth this conversation never has an ending.

My dad owned many different cars Camrys, Avalon, 328i, Highlander, IS250, GS350, and Rx330 and he doesn't speak english that good. I take his cars to the dealer to get the check engine light diagnose once or twice per car. Every time I go 9 out of 10 time the reason the Purge valve, O2 sensor, head gasket, fuel pumps and catalytic converter goes bad is because thats what happens when you put regular gas (87) in a car that recommends premium (93). Every dealer tells me this Toyota, BMW, Lexus, and Honda. Knowing my dad he doesn't care because all his cars are lease and I don't lease my cars. I have a IS300 for the past 7 years or so I have always put 93 and I have more than 130,000 miles on it and have not had 1 issue with the check engine light.

But one thing I can tell you is that my car is not a lease and that I have plans on keeping this car as long as possible and I might even pass it down to my kids when there old enough to drive 10 or 15 years down the line. The reason why I put 93 is because I don't want check engine light and even if the car is still under warranty and the dealer will warranty it every time it happens. It's the fact I have to waste time out of my day to drive to the dealership or auto store and waste valuable time when I could have spent the extra 3-5 per fill and know that I have peace in mind that 5 - 10 years down the line my car is still in tip top condition.

You can argue this many ways but at the end of the day this is a long term investment for me.

Are you using 91 or 93 octane? 93 is quite a jump in price. Even on my EX I usually only use 91 unless I go to Sam's where they only carry premium in 93.

ps: nice to see someone else from Sugar Land on this forum. Go Skeeters.

I wondered how those NASCAR Camrys got that much speed and power from the 3.5 V6. Must be the racing gas. lol

Just got off the phone with my brother. I had taken him down last Friday to pick up his new Prius Plug-in and he was giving me a summary after driving it to work all week. He said that he had driven 390 miles and had used 2 gallons of gas (195 MPG). As he has gotten used to the car his mileage has come up and he said he has gotten 221 MPG for the last four days. He does have a level 2 charger at both home and work (employer supplied). These numbers include about 15 miles that I put on the car driving it around last weekend without trying to do anything special (but, I was primarily using it in electric mode). The car did report that he had used about 50 KwH charging the car at home, work and while shopping. Anyway, I thought it would bring a little perspective to the regular vs premium discussion ....
