Default Riding the Auto Train

Just bought a 2012 RX350. Has anybody used the auto train and if so what procedures did you use for the key bob and security?

It doesn't come through where I live or go where I want to. But I'd use it if it did and was reasonable enough. Would love to go to the west coast that way and travel by train. Be a blast !!!

I can only guess that you'd have to surrender the key to the people loading and unloading the car. Maybe someone that's used it can chime in.

I will be riding on the Auto Train this summer too. I asked a friend of mine who works for Amtrak and he said that your key remains in the ignition with the doors unlocked. I guess with keyless ignition they may leave the keys in the center console or glovebox.

Just out of curiosity, What's the fee from NY to FL ??? Do they charge by type/size of car or flat rate.

The autotrain only goes from Lorton VA to FL. You'll have to drive from NY.

I used it (22 years ago) and was a great experience. I wouldn't take a lowered car on the train but a stock vehicle would be fine.

On the keyfob I'd carry the second keyfob and keep it with you in case the batteries draw down on the one riding with the vehicle. Maybe even put one of the rechargeable battery jump boxes in the vehicle with you just in case.

^^Exactly
I think for a car I paid $165. Expect to pay over $200 if your gonna use the RX or any other SUV.

They have a web site that will answer all of those questions. The Florida destination is Sanford, which is close to Orlando.
