Default Extended warranty on RX350 after 50k miles - buying out the lease

So I am buying out my leased 2010 x350, which has 54k miles on it. It is obviously out of warranty and the dealer is offering extended warranty as an option when buying it out. They are giving 4 yr 125,000 platinum warranty for ~$3300. Everything I find says warranties need to be done pre-50k, so is that true? If so, how am I getting warranty and at $3300, which is much higher than what I see others getting warranties for at pre-50k miles, is it worth it? I only plan to have the car for a few years. Lexus also tells me that the warranty has money back guarantee if I don't use it.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

IMO, reliability is too good on your lexus that it's highly unlikely that you'll have problems that cost that much, even @ 125K mi. Save your money.

Your drivetrain warranty is good up to 70K. $3,300 is really pricey and you need to find out exactly what is covered. As an example my old ES was a Lexus CPO'd vehicle. I had an issue with the glove box not staying closed so took it into the dealer for the third time with that issue. On this third occassion they said the only way to completely correct the problem was to replace the latch mechanism. I said "OK". They then told me that things like that aren't covered under the CPO program. So it really isn't a bumper to bumper but moreso a pick and choose. I bought the part for $80 and repaired it myself.

You might want to check and see if they offer a 2 year/100,000 mile extended warranty. My sister-in-law bought my '07 RX that had less than 60,000 miles on it after it came off lease, and she purchased the 2-year extended warranty, and I hate to say it, but she ended up having to use it 9 months after driving it, due to some belt that froze up related to the air conditioner, rendering the car undriveable. A $4,000 repair got covered under her extended warranty. Yes, Lexus cars are reliable, but when they do break down, it can be expensive.

Shop around and make sure to get a LEXUS warranty, not a 3rd party. $3300 seems like a bit much to me. You can contact Jerry@midwestsuperstore.com or fd-warranty.com. Both sell Lexus warranties, you can actually get it from any Lexus/Totoya dealer. Good luck.

that is the going discounted rate for the 4 year 125K price. It retails for $3999 if I recall properly. The cost as I was told when I was shopping it around to the dealer is $3150 from Lexus. I actually think that is a great price as the best I was able to do was $3200 for a new vehicle.

I have a 2010 RX350 with 49,644 miles, I just purchased the 7 year 125K mile platinum extra care from Jerry Johnson with Midwest Toyota in Hutchison, KS for $2,240.00. Jerry was very pleasant and easy to deal with, you can reach him at jerryj@midwestsuperstore.com or cell phone 620.664.8844. Bryan

I bought a 2011 CPO RX350 with a 3 year 100,000 mi warranty and would love to stretch that out into a 7yr 125,000mi warranty. Do they sell that warranty to somebody they did not sell the car to?

I might have to explore this option after we pick up our car. So I'd like to clarify something on your warranty purchase. Is the warranty that you bought for 7yr/125k from 49,644 miles? Meaning, it'll take you til 2019 or 174,644 miles? If so, that's a friggin' awesome deal!

....or, is that from original date of purchase? Seeing that you have a 2010, if it's 7 years from original date and the original bumper to bumper warranty is 4yr/50k miles, you're extending the bumper to bumper by 3 years, which will take you to 2017 or 125k-49,644 = 75356 miles more?

I think it is "Whichever comes first" meaning the car will be covered for 7 years starting the day you bought the warranty or until the odo turns 125k (whichever comes first). This is one of the reason you should wait until you are so close to expiration date of your original manu warranty.

I may be wrong so please check these tiny prints.

I'm not sure about the current offers but when I bought a Lexus Certified Pre-owned (CPO) the extended warranty was based on Date of First Use of the vehicle.

So in that scenario it doesn't matter length-of-coverage-wise whether you buy the warranty when the car is showroom new or 4 years later and 10 miles short of original warranty coverage expiration. The only advantage to waiting in such cases is that you get to keep your money until you ante it up later.

These days, the CPO warranty is 3 years from your purchase date or 100,000 total vehicle miles.

Lexus's web site indicates that a "used" warranty (or "Vehicle Service Agreement" as they term it) is only available at time of purchase. This seems to be contrary to what folks have reported being able to get though.

The warranty starts from original in service date and mileage is odometer miles so 8/2016 or 125K miles. Bryan

Default 8 yr 100K for $1960 from Jerry

I bought CPO 2010 RX 350 recently that came with 3yr/100K certified platinum warranty till 2015, Tustin Lexus dealer gave an option to extended for 3 more yrs/100K for $2020 and that can be bought only during purchase. I took it but was not sure if I need it. I had 30 days to cancel and get the full refund.

Meanwhile I read this forum and contacted Jerry, he gave 8 yr 100K for $1960 but advised me to stick with CPO warranty that my dealer offered. Because the 6 yrs of CPO extended warranty will last 6 yrs from date I purchased until 2019 but the 8yr VSA platinum warranty is counted from the date the vehicle was in service which in my case 2009 so this will last only until 2017.
