Default Oil/Filter Change on My 2012 RX 350

Tried to do a search on this without any help.

Can anyone help me to locate the oil drain plug on a new RX 350.

Is there a front panel that's needs to be removed to get at the filter?
Is there a special tool that's needed to remove the oil filter. (pictures maybe?)

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

the filter and drain plug are both accessible without having to remove any panels (at least on the '11 RX350). there's a post on the LS forum about this, essentially the same steps.

here's that post: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...re-w-pics.html

like all Toyo/Lexus, its the simplest so get your oil change supplies and just look under [no lifting require]. You can't miss it but if you can't tell whats-what you should not attempt the change. if you have never done/seen insert oil filter type, just read/look at the diagram that comes with the new replacement filter. filter housing itself is same size as a typical Toyo and other Asian makes of the past and current. in the box, there should be one insert type filter, two rubber gaskets, and a plastic tube to drain the oil from filter housing which is really handy to reduce amount of oil spill.

GRPFAN, Do you not want the dealer to change your oil and filter as part of the complementary service at 10k miles? It sounds like you will be performing oil changes yourself but I wasn't sure if you are aware of one complementary oil change by the dealer at 10k miles.

Yes I'm aware of this, but just saying I'd like to pull the oil @ 5,000 by myself or a Toyota dealership (cheaper), then if Lexus gives me another oil change @ 10,000, that's a good deal.

When you remove the oil fliter housing "cap" at the bottom of the housing, just note that, as you turn it to remove, the entire housing may move as well. I also found that when my 10K oil change was performed at the dealer, they tightened the cap way too tight, IMO, and it was not easy to remove on the next oil change. In the end, I used a vise to hold the housing and remove the cap & when I reinstalled the cap, I was careful not to overtighten...very easy to remove on the next oil change. Of course, I use brand new replacement "o" rings on both the cap and housing when performing my own oil changes.
