It depends on if you are willing to 'play the game' If you let it lapse they will call you and you tell them that you are not interested as its too much money for what you get out of it. They will then cut you a better deal. It also depends on what package you get.

I know many people that have paid $89/year give or take. Oh and I am pretty sure it is only a 3 month trial period.

About a week before the renewal date, call and ask for the $77 deal. Last number I used was 800-347-0600, the cost for a year was $82.40 (third time getting the deal).

I paid something like $85 for the first year (starting Dec 2010) after calling them for the $77 promo (there is a royalty fee on top of the promo) deal. But, my subscription auto renewed at the beginning of December for $157 (normal full price for my plan). Just a heads up that you have to stay on top of expiration date because you need to call and try to get a new promo deal every year before they bill you for full price. I will try and renew my second car with the promo deal before the first year expires in March. Can someone confirm that the $77 promo is still good now in December? Has anyone had any luck calling in and trying to get the full price renewal reduced to the promo price?

I have other subscriptions to XM so I just let it lapse and resubscribed under the other plan which gives a discount. I don't want to play the game of having to hunt this deal down every year so I signed up for 36 month plan. I think it is silly to buy a $50k car and then fret over whether you pay $80 or $100 / year for this service. On a daily basis it is peanuts.

Once you let it lapse, you should be able to get the $77 deal by going to http://www.xmradio.com/backtoxm and sign up.
As others have noticed, you will need to make a note in your Outlook calendar or phone to call 2-4 weeks prior to expiration in order to cancel and get a "below retail price" offer like the $77 deal.
Also, I just got a letter from XM stating that the price is going up by about $1 a month on their subscriptions effective Jan 1 so don't be surprised if the $77 deal becomes the $89 deal.

Actually, I never used/had sirius xm before, always had my trusty I-pod, CD's or good old am/fm to listen to.
So call me "old fashion", but I get nervous paying a monthly fee for something I wouldn't use much.

GRPFAN, I thought the same thing and used my 3 month trial. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the XM - picking the genre of music I liked, listening to other cities sporting events. The conventional radio stations are great for local news, but play the same music Over and Over daily. IMO, at $89/yr or $0.24/day it's good value. I hope you enjoy thethree month trial. 80's on 8 and New Wave channel 33 are awesome.

I just purchased a 2012 RX350. I called to transfer the satellite radio into my name and it has a subscription that is good until 10/2013. It was supposed to only have a 90 day trial. Guess the dealer registered it on a 2 year plan. Nice bonus!

Sat radio rules all! I will never be without it no matter what I end up paying! I love it and hated having to constantly find a new channel every 50 miles or so. And never one I really liked. I love sat radio! That said, if I can save 20 or 50 I sure will

I agree 100%! I renewed mine on the "as long as you own the car plan" as soon as the six month freebie ran out. It cost only $495 + our dreaded 12% HST. When making long highway drives it is so nice to listen to the same station and music/talk that we enjoy without constantly searching the dial. IPod music is great but that little bit of DJ chat that one gets on XM just picks things up a bit. I never thought I'd be willing to pay for radio signals but one long drive across Canada (Edmonton to Kitchener in two and a half days) convinced me that it is worth the price!

I got the $77 deal also but had to call twice. The line that worked was "my friend just re-subscribed for $77 and I'd like to do the same thing". She had to "go check with the supervisor, but came back in ten seconds with the "approval".
