Default Lexus Cutting Corners

I guess I got a little spoiled with my 2004 RX, it had a light in my glove box and my homelink buttons were lit as well. Cutting these little nuances couldn't have resulted in any great cost savings, but, definitely should have been left alone. Even the cheapest cars at least have light in the glove box.......geez!

There is a light in the glove box but it's not very bright. It's to the left I believe.

I will have to check to see if there is indeed a bulb there that needs replacing, but, my glove box is definitely dark.

The light only comes on if the ignition is on. If the car is off it doesn't illuminate. Trust me... I just checked.

it's LED, don't think you can change it.

Yes. Car on and headlights on. Guess they figured if you. Eed headlights you probably won't be able to see in the glovebox very well

We've had our 2012 RX for about a month now and I just got an email survey that asks about "problems" with just about every aspect of the car. I highly recommend leaving feedback on these items (as I did) as they are reviewed by the engineers and others at Lexus (according to the survey). Enough repetition and it will get put on a backlog of change proposals.

So I am trying to understand how a glovebox light coming on only at night with the lights on is a problem issue? What other problems might you have had? Seems to me this feature makes sense

Sometimes you may go out to your car at night and need something from the glove box, why should you have to start the car for that purpose?

I am going to put brighter bulbs in the over head and in the glove box if I can. I want all the lights to be bright so when I turn them on out of need i can find what I am looking for. If I wanted a romantic atmosphere I would buy a recroom.

Wow. Interesting discussion but it's centered on Lexus cutting corners and if it's true that you have to have the car running and the headlights on in order to use the light in the glovebox, then you have to have relays in place for both the ignition and headlights as well as a switch for the glovebox door. It would be less expensive (i would think) to just put a switch on the glovebox door and skip the rest. Looks like they're cutting corners but I certainly hope they're not paying somebody to figure out how this is saving them!!
