Buying 2010 CPO RX 350, extend CPO warranty?

Default Buying 2010 CPO RX 350, extend CPO warranty?

I am buying my first lexus this Thursday, a 2010 CPO RX 350. It currently has about 39k miles on it and I drive about 20k a year so the 3yr/100k CPO warranty would be just about perfect, however, I have the option to extend that to 4yr/125k miles for $1700. I was wondering if people think this is necessary for just a waste of money. Any input would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

If you're getting the CPO from a Lexus dealer then the provided warranty should be good enough. Additional is actually insurance and qualifies as such. If it makes you feel that much better then ok, but chances are good it won't need it.

Welcome to Clublexus. Just a couple of tips for you and any other new members.

Search Google prior to posting any questions. If you have no luck.

Use the search function on Clublexus. It is outstanding. When your looking for help. Look in all of the Lexus models. They all use the same systems.

Also every question you could possibly think of asking. Ever. Has already been answered.

If your looking into how your car operates. The owners manual for your car is online at this Lexus web site.

It also has a great search functions.

If after all this you have no luck. And want to start a new topic. State which type of car and equipment you have installed. For example the year. Is it a 330 or 350. FWD or AWD.

Is it a Lexus that was sold in the states or overseas. Mark Levinson or Premium Stereo. Navigation. Rear Entertainment. Does the system work and your only getting a warning. Things like that.

My concern always with buying these warranties is that you have a problem and you go in and they say it's not covered under the warranty. So then it gets into a haggling thing where you are trying to convince them it should be covered, etc. It happened with my last car.

Much depends on how long you plan on keeping that vehicle. At about 90-95k miles, even with a Toyota product, we start getting annoyed at the little things that are failing and usually start looking for a newer vehicle at that point. Our previous RX was a 330 with CPO, and drove it to 98xxx miles before getting our current 2010. Yes, most of the items were covered under warranty, but just having to take the time for those things gets bothersome (rear hatch motor, swiveling headlamps, CD player, power window, transmission...Engine was rock solid though) My thoughts are don't bother, get a newer vehicle when it gets to about 100kmiles.
That being said, I keep a 10 yr old Tahoe with 135k miles because it is easy to work on, parts are abundant, but really hasn't given me any major issues (actually has had less repairs than aforementioned 330RX) and is my fun car. It's much more aggravating if your daily driver breaks down though, and that's what the RX is...again, my $0.02

Unless you drive your car on special conditions, you don't need those extra warranties, unless you just want a peace of mind.

Ditto to MC5Wes's comment about searching before posting, seems a lot of people don't know how to use such.

When the lease was up on my 2007 RX350, my sister-in-law bought it for the buy-out price and financed it through Lexus and purchased a 2 year/ 100,000 mile extended warranty. The original warranty had expired, as I had reached the 50,000 mile mark before the 4 years was up. Now, I had never had any problems with the vehicle other than a few squeaks and rattles, but this past April when I was with them for my nephew's tennis match in Ft. Lauderdale, we were following each other to go find some place to get lunch, and they were following behind me in my 2010 Lexus RX, and I noticed they fell way behind us(My brother was riding with me in my RX, and my sister-in-law and my nephew were following us in the 2007 RX.)

Lo and behold, the 2007 RX broke down and had to be towed to JM Lexus(a huge dealership, by the way!) Something to do with the air condition that seized up the motor. Turns out that a $4,000 repair was covered 100 percent under her extended warranty. So in this case, she did the right thing by purchasing the extra coverage.

The good news about the extended warranty is you can wait until before the basic warranty expires to make that decision. I have purchased mine on my previous and current RX when new. They have paid for themselves including an A/C compressor replacement on the 300 just before I traded in for the 330. Having the service advisor tell me no charge was priceless.

Question: Can a dealer demo model (which may have been abused by customers' rough driving) qualify as a CPO vehicle? Should a CPO badge offset any concern here?

Frankly, I'm not sure the CPO designation is all that important. My 2010 is in mint condition and came without it. I'm still covered by the 5 yr/ 50,000 mile warranty.

Normally I don't buy extended warranties but we keep our vehicles for up to ten years and although the mechanical aspects of Toyota products is pretty good all of these high stressed electronic components makes me uneasy. Stories abound of Nav screens going out (+$2,000) and other electronic issues cropping up. For that reason an extended warranty is worthwhile for me. You'll just have to decide if you want some peace of mind for that $50,000 hunk of steel rolling down the road.
