Premium for 2010-2011 RX350? (merged threads)

2010`s recommend premium fuel. that is what they will run best on, and acquire the best mpg`s from. you cant get an accurate assumption that regular fuel is fine to use unless you have used premium fuel for a while. that is where you will see a difference.

Your mechanic doesn't know squat about gas.Costco and Valero are both top tier gas.
That stated I use Shell 93 about 95% of the time for my 5K miles per..

The ARCO was very noticeable on my old car - rough idling, hesitation during acceleration, etc. It ran okay with Costco gas though.
The difference in gas is not as noticeable on the RX however.

I think some cars (and people!!) are more sensitive/aware to how their engine runs. I am using Costco 87 octane and the car feels a lot better on Shell.

I feel my RX feels just better using 93 over 87.Placebo?Maybe but I feel good about using 93 even though 87 is recommended.Same engine as the Toyota models which used regular and Lexus models premium over the years. That has been discussed here ad nauseam.
I know that my RX is only getting 4 HP and bit more torque butI feel it's running at peak optimum performance using 93.
I've never used Costco but have used Valero once or twice and didn't notice any difference.
No Arco's in my area.

We have had our 2010 RX350 for almost 2 years and primarily use the 87 octane. Once and a while I fill with Premium and don't really notice any difference. I posted on the Gas mileage thread our vacation trip of 2400+ miles and averaged 24 mpg for complete trip all on 87 octane. The RX ran fine.

If you decide to switch from 93 (or 91) to 87, just unplug the battery for a while to reset the ECU. The computer will remap for the fuel much quicker and throttle response will be very responsive. Try it out!

IMO some people expect to feel a difference after filling their tank with 93 once. And when they don't feel a change after one tank they go back to 87. What they don't understand is that it will take several tanks of 93 before they feel a difference. If they don't feel a difference after several tanks of 93 then go back to 87, but one tank of 93 isn't going to change anything.
For me the difference in price is so minimal that I don't even consider going to 87. For example, 99% of the time I refuel my vehicles before the gauge reaches a 1/4 of a tank left. I honestly can't remember a time when a fuel light came on in one of my vehicles.
So usually I am putting in approx 10 gals of gas when I refuel, and in my area the difference in price of 87 to 93 on avg is approx 0.15 a gal. Based on these numbers it's costing me on avg $1.50 more when I refuel which is cheap peace of mind for ME.
However in the end I think everyone should do what they feel is right for THEM..

^^I agree, my feelings exactly.

I still use 93.I only do 5k-6K miles per but still would use 93 if I did the average mileage per.

However, my middle son has a 2011 Accord SE (I-4) and this car runs better, even smoother IMO on 87 or 89 then it does on 91+.

JT4 - Car and Driver Magazine did a test comparing 87 and 91 octane gas on several vehicles and the Honda Accord did much better on 87. http://www.caranddriver.com/features/regular-or-premium

The Lexus 3.5L has always been premium before the 87 use recommendation like the Toyota's same 3.5L.The engine picks up 4 HP and some torque using premium. So a small plus but a plus to me as I feel the engine is running at it's optimal peak performance..

We switched to regular in my wife's '11 RX two years ago, but switched back, after the six month's test, to premium because both the engine and the wife seem to run quieter on premium. : )
