Default Canadian Instructions For Programming the Homelink

Note that there is a separate section titled "Programming an entry gate (for U.S.A. owners)/Programming all devices in the Canadian market" in the manual (page 430, in mine), distinct from the instructions on "Programming the Homelink" (page 428). If you haven't tried that, it may work better.

From experience it is possible on some gates but most I have run across aren't compatible and if they are the apartment complex won't usually give you access so you can program your Homelink. I just hid the remote the apartment complex gave me under the middle console - attached it with some easy remove velcro - it works fine down there.

Like DarylS2001 said, some will work. You should contact both manufacturers, and ask them.

I don't think being near the entry gate during setup makes any difference - the Homelink is just trying to learn the signal from your entry gate remote.

As noted in post #3 in this thread, above, you may be out of luck - apartment entry gates may not work with Homelink.

Are there any other Lexus or Homelink-equipped cars in your apartment building? Did they get Homelink to work?

I live in apartment building, and followedtheinstructions. My works just fine. Therearesome indicators lights that flashes.

Are you holding down the buttons long enough?
See if the building has rolling codes for security, but I think ours does and it still worked.

Both of my Lexus' have been programmed to open the gates and our garage door, but you have to be patient. I had to do it four or five times for it to 'take hold', so try pointing the remote toward the bottom or back of the mirror as you hold both buttons down. That position finally did the trick for me. Once programmed you are good to go.

sounds strange!!! are both of your lexus RX? pointing the remote toward the bottom or back of the mirror is too far from the homelink located on the top of the roof?, anyway i will give a try, thanks

Your necessity connection with a switch to the door controls box that agrees a new remote be planned. With that access, I could plus Home link control to our entrance.

There are some apartment complex remotes that send out a burst instead of continues signal as you press the remote button. If you have such a remote then holding on the remote button as the RX tries to learn won't work. The trick would be to repeatedly press (3sec) and hold and release (1/2sec) and press and hold (3sec). Hopefully RX while sweeping for the new remote will capture the signal.

you shouldve been issued a fob or key with the gate type. you can then look up if its homelink compatible.

For security reasons there are gate systems specifically designrd closed security and cannot be cloned to match the use case for apartments. You would not want old tenants to be able to still get in after they end their lease.

in particular a common line of doorking systems are designed specifically this way to not allow cloning
