Our plan for retirement is to do a lot of traveling in a motorhome and the 2000 RX is the last year Lexus allowed it to be towed 4 wheels down behind a motorhome. We plan on keeping the 2000 and babying her for her future as a "toad".
When we got our 2011 RX a couple months ago we did not trade in our old car. My wife is still driving the old car more than the new one for a while until we eventually give it up to my brother soon. Like everyone said, it's kind of hard to let go the old one.

Thanks for all the encouraging (and funny) comments. It was nice to know getting attached to the car is not weird. Well, this weekend I took the plunge and I am having fun with the 2011 RX350, though I confess having some "adjustment annoyance", mostly minor stuff like where to put my handbag or rest my arm.
All the new gadget ability is great. The voice recognition is better; my iPhone connected much easier than I'd dared hope; traffic & weather reports are cool; the Nav screen is MUCH more visible than I'd thought (though as an iPad fan I still miss touchscreen). Took my first long drive yesterday and the handling is definitely better than my 2005.
Confess I did look longingly at a blue 2005 I saw on the road (looked in much better condition than my old one) and thought "I still miss you".

Loving is caring. Be honest guys, if you have a wonderful trade-in/selling price, would you still miss your old car? Hahah, Just kidding...Don't hit on me

Had a 2001 RX 300 then slipped into a 2006 RX 330 and now have a 2011 RX 350. Had no problem letting go of the 2001 for the 2006. I was very attached to my 2006. Primo condition with only 42,000 miles. Let it go for personal reasons. Who ever got it is very lucky. Thought I would never love my 2011 as much as my 2006, but have been proven wrong. It is a fantastic car, but I still think there are some great features in the 2006 that were deleted from the 2011.

I ordered my first RX in November 0f 2004 and got the 330 in March of 2005 Black Forest Pearl, Only saw two others in the 6 years I had the car with that color. Order my 450h in September of 2010 and got the car at the end of November 2010. Got all of my things out of it and have never looked back. The 330 was a great car but the 450h is so much more. You need to get off the pot and go get the new car before someone else takes it. Not a lot of new ones out there right now.

Agree with you...

Although they are very similar in exterior appearance the third gen RX is a much different vehicle than the 2nd Gen.

We have owned an '05 330,an '08 350 and for 6 weeks an '11 350.

These have all been the standard "basic" entry RXs,no NAV etc.

The RX 330 was underpowered and had medioacre gas mileage. The '08 350 was a very decent car with a lighter feel and handling than the '11.

I'm disappointed that Lexus has cut corners with the most recent series-i.e. no armrests, storage for the tonneau cover,no courtesy lights on the door's floor, lack of sunglass holder.

But the new model has a more solid feel and is more comfortable.

I would say the 2nd and 3rd generation are about equal overall....

After nine months of driving the 2010 RX, I have to say I still kind of miss my '07 RX. I would even go so far as to say that I would be happy to drive a 2008-2009 RX with the navigation package that would give me some of the little extra techie things that are on the 2010 RX; but, yeah, then I would gain back the illuminated door sills that were on all four doors, the full-sized spare tire and the sunglasses holder. And, also, I would get back the quietness that I used to have in the '07 when sitting at a stoplight. Frankly, the noisy exhaust and some of the vibration I get when I'm stopped at a light with the 2010 really irritates me.

I put the gearshifter in neutral a lot of times when stopped at a light, it's that annoying to me. Oh, well. I gotta complete those terms of my lease, so I will soldier on!
