Default Anchoring the Tether Strap For a Rear-Facing Child Seat

Nothing in the manual, that I could find - how/where can I anchor the tether strap for a rear-facing child seat that is placed in the center of the rear seat of my 2010 RX 350?

(The tether strap is the one attached to the top back of the child seat - works fine in the front-facing position because there are anchor points built in to the backs of the three rear seats in the RX.)

I don't think you're supposed to use the top anchor on the back of the child seat in the rear-facing position.

We had the local fire department install our child seat the first time, just to see how it is supposed to be done. I recommend that.

Default Top Tether For Rear-facing Child Seat: Mandatory, Prohibited, Recommended?

Thanks so much for responding to my query - I was prepared to find that a question about child car seats wouldn't find any responders on this particular forum, due to the likely demographics of the forum.

Anyway, you're neither completely right or wrong on the question of top tether anchoring for rear-facing car seats - it's a "grey area" where it's neither mandatory nor prohibited. However, here's what the manual for this particular car seat says:

Top Tether
  • Sunshine Kids recommends using a tether for rear-facing installations to improve stability and performance of the restraint.

So, it's "recommended". I guess I could forego the use of the top tether, but I thought if I could find a way to anchor it, I would.
