The 3RX Gas Mileage Thread
#94
30k miles on my 350RX.
On my normal commute (a mix of highway & city) I get around 22-23.
Last weekend I took it to Cape Cod and got 25-26 mostly highway minimal AC usage.
What I discovered on my trip:
Driving 75-80 will yield 24 MPG or less.
To get 25-26 you need to travel at consistent speeds of 50MPH or so. I think that's the sweet spot for mileage.
Problem is that's too slow for most highway driving and probably unrealistic. I was able to make it work for failry long stretches because of traffic and Rt. 6 on the Cape has a 55 MPH limit and slower once you get out further out.

Great app for iPhone, Droid, or Blackberry
There is a great free app I found out about here in C/L. It's called Fuelly if you search your app store. You can enter the data when you fill up, or just write your current odo reading on your receipt and enter on your PC at home. I've used it just three times now and the results are below. For the record, it's within .2 of what Watson's computer says he's getting . I'll keep track of that over time.

2012 RX 350 with 2525 miles getting 18.7 MPG combined city and freeway, mainly city. Hopefully it gets better as the engine breaks-in. If not, it's still a great improvement over the LX 470 at around 14 MPG.

This is a basic college chemistry question. The BTU per gallon is essentially independent of octane rating. However it does drop quite a bit as you add ethanol. If both the regular and premium have the same % ethanol, you won't see any difference in mpg. The only difference will be a slight increase in power as octane increases because the engine management system is programmed to cut power as octane decreases to prevent predetonation. That's it.

my 2011 rx 350 get's 19 on the city and 23-24 on the highway.
I have switched to regular unleaded (87) and noticed to difference.
I guess members confuse the decrease in hp vs mpg.
Using 87 vs 91+ gasoline, in my opinion decreases the horse power by 4
with little to no effect to the mpg.
I have 6,000 on my odometer.

How would you rate your acceleration in city? Is eco lite always on. Mine is on most of the tiome and still only ave 16 mpg. Car has 8000 and use reg unleaded..
Air cond on at all times.

Hwy/City
Well, I spent about 8 months driving all over the country and eventually got up to 23-26 mpg on the highway using premium gas.
City driving is another story. I live in Chicago and get between 13.5 and 16 mpg in the city. BTW-to me, city driving means 15-30 mph...maybe up to 35 or 40 once in a while with stoplights every half mile.
This is unacceptable mileage.

Lexus Test Driver
We also own a 2011 toyota Prius, so i have carried over my driving habits from the Prius to the RX.
I seldom use my airconditioner. I leave the house 5:30 and i leave the hospital/ clinic around 7:00pm so i miss the " heat" in the afternoon.
