Rear DVD system?
Which rear DVD headrest systerm is the best? Not sure which one to get, also does Lexus only install a certain brand? Is it better to buy and have installation done thru Lexus or is it cheaper to go to a specialized car audi specialist? Thanks
P.S. Any pictures of an already done installation would be appreciated

Adams, I recently purchased the "Chameleon 7" Rear DVD Headrests" from SonicElectronics.com. Each headrest has it's own DVD player plus I looped them so each can watch what the other is watching. These came out to $390 with two wireless headphones, extended warranty, and shipping.
Thanks to another thread on this forum (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...l-writeup.html), I installed these myself and it took less than one hour. I looked around and most radio shops or BestBuy will charge around $250 for the installation. I didn't go elsewhere because now-a-days you can't trust anybody and didn't want my new RX damaged. Even if I can't see it. I didn't hardwire them though and used the included cigarette lighter adapters. They look great and have more than satisfied my family's needs.
They are called chameleon becauase they include black, grey and tan covers so you can change them to match your interior.
By the way, sonicelectronix.com has great customer service and quick delivery. Also, no one could come close to their price for the exact same headrest.

If you want a higher end system, Invision is the way to go. Many Lexus dealers install these systems and I love ours. I bought a 2010 RX 350 and had it installed a few weeks after taking delivery. Top notch quality and works excellent. Not to mention they look perfect. http://www.invisionautomotive.com/default.aspx I went with the SL 8" Replacements. They work great and have had no problems.

Wow!!! The cheapest I found those headrests for was $1,639 without installation. I don't know how much better the quality can get on a 7" or 8" screen but the extra money cant make it that much better. Chameleon set I got has a great picture and matches my black interior perfectly. Most people can't tell they're not factory.
For that much money why not get the viziologic set that most Lexus dealers install for a little more. The positive of going through your dealer is that they will be covered with your vehicle's warranty.
I reviewed a lot of dvd headrests and it was hard to find something negative about the Chameleon headrests. This set has an adjusting feature which lets you tilt the headrest forward or back to the front passenger's likeing as well.
In the end, it's what you feel comfortable spending.

Was that system done on order or put in after you received your rx? I love tht rear system but can you have that placed in on an already delivered rx? The reason I ask is I'm thinking about purchasing a 2010 rx. Thanks again

I'm getting a couple of these along with iPads and calling it a day. Add a hotspot and people sitting in the back can browse the internet too. Then when I'm parked I can take them with me and not worry about someone breaking into my RX and swiping them.
That's a really good idea. Much more versatile too.

Don't waste your money. I have discovered that our rear seat DVD system is now obsolete. The iPad is the ultimate rear seat entertainment system. My daughter has all her movies, TV shows, and games on it. There is zero need for the rear seat entertainment system now.
I mount it to the headrest with the Griffin Headrest mount.

Get the iPads. That is definitely the way to go. If I had to do it all over again I would get the iPad setup. That obviously wasnt an option when I poured in $2k for our system (which has worked really really well so far). If anyone wants the black set of Invision 8" i am willing to sell!!!

and you can play the sound from the ipad on your stereo via bluetooth too. Works great. Just drives me a little crazy when I'm driving and all I hear is the Tinkerbell movie playing the whole time!
