Default Guess Where They Put it?

I was down at the dealer today and they got their first 2 RX 350's in. Both grey. Anyway I have been wonder where they were going to put the additional 12V electrical port. See Picture.

Not sure that this is any better than the one in the box. I would have rather had lighted garage door buttons.

I didn't realize that the garage door buttons in the RX aren't lit.

They aren't in the ES either.

I've had two current gen ES ('07 and '10) and really thought they would have corrected this oversight by now, but not so. It would be an easy fix...

lol it looks so out of place. Good thing I ordered a black interior which should hide its ugliness

I can see some retrofit possibilities here. This may have been planned long ago, or it may even be the status quo in other markets, as the "removable section" matches the one we have in the 2009 model. On another front, I wish the surface under there would be rubberized to prevent things, like water bottles from sliding around.

I think like my 2gen RX which has a space down there also has a 12V. That area seems like a natural place to put a tissue box.

Kinda where I was expecting it, as it is exactly where the plug is in Toyota's cars with similar dash layout

Just goes to show that in this age of cad/cam design...it took a model year to fix a RDP (Really Dumb Placement) because none of the design team asked a simple question - "With the 12-volt and audio connections buried at the bottom of the center console...do ya think anybody will have a problem?"

Nah.

Why does Lexus have every button known to man lit up but the garage door button is in the dark? My wifes 2004 RX has the three buttons lit up but my 2007 GS 350 doesn't. Now I find the new RX is the same as the GS. Is it because it is located on the rear view mirror and they think it might be a distraction? I just don't get how you can have the vent dials light up but an all important garage door button in the dark. They do realize most Lexus owners keep the cars in a garage....Don't they?

I don't get it either, it can't save them that much money. Especially when you see so many comments on people preferring that they light up. They seem to be eliminating them in every car one by one.

It's not the Pursuit of Perfection, but of Mystery. One would think that feature would be common across all models. The mystery continues...

New edition releases leave out a lot of previously available features, that do eventually make their way back on to generate more excitement when the generation gets a little tired. Distraction is not issue as not having them lit is more so. On the LS, virtually all switches are lit like a commercial airliner, which in itself can also be distracting. Blame it on the marketing guys. As a consolation, you might be able to retrofit them in future years...

They did not put lights on my 2010 Carmy but I never have a problem seeing the button I pull up in the drive. This is just another way Toyota is going cheep through out there line

I am with you 100%.

useless location and extending the cable to reach the bottom center will be hazard. one of these days, i will have to take apart the center console and find a location for the outlet.

It seems Lexus cannot change the power supply locaiton at all. Instead, they just add the outlet toward the front...
