Rattle from H*ll in the Hatch Area?
OK, so the rattle in my hatch area has gotten abominable.
I know it's not the cargo cover, as I drove around for a month without it. It's also not the license plate or frame - that's firmly attached. No slop.
I mentioned it last week at my 10K service, and was told I'll have to leave the car for them to solve the issue.
Has anyone else had a rattle that was NOT the cargo cover? If so, what was the determined issue? I like to give them an idea before allowing them to tear off interior panels.

A few other things that come to mind,
- Hatch isn't closing fully
- Wiper blade arm is loose
- Exhaust is loose
- Struts are leaking, joints are defective
- Sway bar broke
None of these things should ever happen on a new car though.

I have decided to live with all my squeaks, wind noise, and rattles on this "Lexus" nee "Toyota". To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. This the last Toyota product I will ever buy. My 04' Audi A6 is quieter and has no squeaks or rattles after 141,000. The RX350 is a great $25,000 car.

Frankly, I could fill this entire page with them, and my Toyotas, Rx7s, Mustangs, Ford Econolines, Acuras & Cadillacs...
Strangely though, Audi makes great cars, but...
Every car make has its share of duds...

Some more places to check:
back seat railings
hitch
wires for tail lights
rear seat belts
On my car, there were some noise coming from the back, checked, and was that plastic rear seat cover tapping on the metal railings. Try folding down the seats, and see if the noise goes away.
As for Audi's, they are great cars as long as they are under warranty, after that, repair will cost you(alot). That's one of the reason why I sold my Audi, and went with Lexus.

Just to test if the cargo cover and the end cargo cover creates the rattle, remove them temporarily. If the rattle goes away, then you know the culprit. The end cargo cover that is attached to the rear door is held by 3 or 4 button-like clips. Somebody reported that this fastener rattles in his car. He put some rubber washer and that helps somewhat.

I noted in the OP that I had removed the cargo cover, and that's not it. And it doesn't sound like the clips - it sounds like it's actually in the rear door itself....
