Rust Proofing / Leather Treatment
Hi,
I just picked up a new 2010 Lexus RX 350 with the leather interior. My dealer tried to sell me the rust proofing package but I declined.
As the vehicle is new (< 500 kms), do I have to get it rustproofed?
What about the leather treatments? I think they spray some sort of sealer or something to protect it?
Thanks

It depends on where you live. If they salt the roads during winter it might be worth it.
The Leather in the Rx350 is coated leather so leather treatments aren't necessary.

Dave,
Do you find the mudflaps are a good accessory? My wife questioned what I thought would be a routine accessory. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where we get our share of rain.

The thread mentioned by BCRCornet is pretty useful.

The rustproofing and leather treatment items are a scam and are worthless. You don't need the type of rustproofing these places offer and you can do the leather treatment yourself for about $10. My big concern is that a dealership that tries to sell you this crap is not very ethical and I would worry about every service they recommend or perform. Is there another dealer near you that you can go to for service? This dealership is not reliable.

I agree and I'll add that incorrect install of rust proofing can promote rust by covering drain holes and such.
Also like mentioned, leather is coated so no leather conditioner will condition the leather. The conditioner can't penetrate the plastic coating.
I'll admit I still use a leather conditioner because I like the leather scent.
