Default Acceleration Sound

I'm just a few days into driving my new 2010 RX. I remember when I test drove the dealer's test car, I was so impressed with the quietness of the car. Now I'm more tuned in and I'm noticing the powerful sound upon acceleration. I don't mind it, but I just want to make sure this is how it's supposed to be. I'd hate to think something is wrong with mine.

So please let me know, do you hear absolutely nothing while driving and accelerating or do you hear the power.

That's a correct characterization... though it the sound generally happens when you downshift and stomp on it.

I hear power too

I come from LS430 so I probably hear a lot more noises than some other people too.

It's about the power.

Btw, if your engine is cold, you definitely hear something more... Do we use the chain timing belt instead of rubber's?

Definitely guttural. Doesn't bother me, not a bad sound at all.

Default 2010 RX 350 and 450h

Last week when I was getting my firmware update and the NAV 9.1 update I got to drive the 350 for a few hours. Now I understand what those folks complain about with the sudden throttle response. It's manageable but definitely takes getting used to. Anyway there is a very noticeable difference in the extra power of our 450h plus the engine is quieter at idle and more throaty under power in the 'h'. Other than that, it drove well (as it should).

Oh yea, the NAV screen and dash display have more gadgets as well.

yes, but upside is you'll have greatly reduced cost of your 100k service

To remember them all I'd have to have two side by side or the book out. No time now for the book, got to leave in a few. But what comes to mind on the dash display is the ICE vs battery display, and the individual tire pressure display (standard) and on the NAV the 'Hybrid' display. I'm sure there are probably others I don't remember or didn't notice.

Both the loaner and mine had the 19" Michelin's and both were quite but less (highway) wind noise for a fact on mine w/o the upper rails. The loaner was a Canadian build and did need to have the new bumper cover clips installed. Otherwise it seemed pretty well built. It had just a skosh over 10k and mine has 9500 so it was a good comparison. I was happy to see the tires on it holding up as well as mine tread wise. No noticeable wear at 10,000 miles.

As it wasn't programed for my garage door I got an outside chance to hear the idle noise when I walked in front of it. Same type of sound but maybe twice as loud.

I liked the acceleration sound on my '04. Now I have the 450h and I don't hear it as much Gunning it would defeat the purpose of having a hybrid. The engine is smooth and quiet. When I do need power on the hills, it responds well. But it's like a game trying to keep it in eco mode.

There is nothing wrong with you. You are correct. I have noticed the difference in acceleration noise between two identical 2010 RX models, and so has the local dealership. We were lucky that our's turned out to be one of the quieter ones, I have no idea if that is because it was built in Japan. I still don't think it is quiet enough.
Power?,,You must be kidding. Maybe if compared to the RX330.
