I asked for an extended warranty on my new engine through corporate but was denied. They said I still have the remainder of the factory warranty.
Maybe the policy is different for reman parts under warranty?

Joe, that doesn't make sense. The warranty should have restarted when the engine was changed. I certainly hope you won't need it. I know Lexus uses remanufactured parts which I hate. Looking back I had two parts replaced in my 99 RX this way, the liftgate lock assembly and A/C compressor. The first remanufactured liftgate lock assembly turned out to be defective. The tech who installed it almost lost his job because the service manager and service advisor thought he didn't replace it. Well, after a few more times it finally opened. The dealer wound up ordering and installing yet another one. With the A/C compressor, I traded in the car about a month after it was installed so I don't know how that held up. Both of these repairs were outside of the standard warranty. Fortunately I had purchased the extended warranty and was covered. And my dealer didn't charge me the $50 deductible.

Joe and 4482, I would really push Lexus to give you an extended warranty if you can for peace of mind. Your confidence has been severely shaken. It's a small price for Lexus to pay. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I do not want to turn this topic into a debate over buying vs leasing, but with leasing typically you only care for the car over the standard duration, which is almost always the duration of a basic manufacturer's warranty. So when such misfortunes do happen, you can walk away from the problems or concerns before the coverage expires.

You can also trade in your car in this situation too if you purchase instead of a lease. The difference with purchase is that one can trade it in anytime they want and not have to be lock into a lease. Lexus usually have very high lease rate, so leasing a Lexus doesnt always make sense. For example, I traded in my last 3 Lexus when they were around 2 to 3 years old. The resale value on them was so high that my monthly payment was actually lower than the lease rate. Leasing do make sense with some car, such as many German cars, but the math just didnt add up for me with Lexus.

You both have gotten off the reason of 4482 thread.
He had to have the transmission replaced in his brand new car.
And that the option is up to Lexus to provide a new transmission or reman.
Not leasing verses buying. Personal issue here.
Start another thread.

Look at when the 2007 ES350 first came out. They blew many trannys and Lexus did rite and did buy backs. Then towards the end they decided to do no more buy backs and just give extended warrantys. The scary part is there a lot 2007 still out there that at any point these trannys can blow and now those customers are in the dark and if out warranty looking at a costly repair. I would say in your case it's random because with the ES they happen almost every day. Plus I have seeen no RX come in with blown tranny so far.
