What oil should we use?

My 5K service receipt indicates
6 00279-1QT20-01 5W20 QTS W

Does this mean I use 5W20 on my RX? Or this is the typo on the system?

What's 2G RX using? 5W20?


RX10 Owner Manual says 0w-20.

It's late to ask this, but I'm curious what oil your dealers "ink" on your statement when doing the oil change. Thanks...


I got to figure this out tomorrow... maybe to make a call or visit the dealer if getting some time.

Well... I knew what my dealer would say about this. It's kind of typo, my dealer's maintenance system doesn't have 0W-20 code yet although the part system has it.




Question:

I cannot believe the system doesn't have this option. Does any Lexus models use 0W-20 now?

I think heavier weight oil for the summer.

A lot of folks seem to have a problem with the idea of a thinner oil. I grew up with heavier weight oils too and as the miles piled up, went even heavier as long as it would still start in the winter. Well that was back in the days of '40 Ford Pick-ups with '48 Ford flathead V-8 engines.

The 2010 is a whole new engine family for 2010 designed by folks that have a lot more knowledge than me and I suspect most of us as to what they need in lubrication. And with a fine history behind them, I'm going with 'TRUST'. I do know one of the reasons they designed these engines to run on lower weight oil is for economy.

Speaking of economy, I noticed today at Wall-Mart, 0-20 or 5-20 in 5qt containers was $22 and change and that was for the synthetic concoctions of Mobile 1.

Price doesn't matter. What matters the most is the shop/dealer/mechanic tells you Oil-A but uses Oil-B, and you even cannot find out since we don't have the scientific methods to testify the truth. We only can have faith in what they promise to you...

I would make sure your dealer is using 0W-20 oil, ask your dealer to show you their stock of 0W-20 oil. Some dealer just put in what ever is the closest weight they have in stock.

Jim--don't forget that in our prime youth, the engines did not seal as well as they do today and consequently a heaviey oil leaked less.

The sealing is far better now so they can go with a more free flowing oil year round.

That's a pretty good price. 5W20 is probably OK for the summer rather than 0W20 though in a pinch, don't you think? I ain't no auto engineer though. I defer to those smarter...hmmm, that's about everyone else.

Whatever you use, yours or the dealers, just use it and on schedule. Did you see this link in the RX300 forum? http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/sludg...ng_sludge.html Fortunately it's not an RX, but it is a Toyota product.

I couldn't prove what they're using. Unless Lexus does have the car using 0W-20 before RX, the dealer can keep saying it's typo error on the system.

The 2010 Rx 350 should us synthetic 0w20 oil. The part # should be 00289-1qt0w-48 billed at 6 or 7 quarts as the RX takes 6 and change. All LS 460's, LS600h, and LX 570 use the same oil. The 5w20 goes into the RX 400h.

Well, I reviewed the owner manuals on '09LS460, '09LS600h and '09LX570.

Once again, gtiguy915, thanks for the info. I'll see what I should talk to the dealer now.

Yeah they should have been carrying the oil since 07 my ls's came out so either they put the wrong oil in your vehicle and everyone elses vehicles that require 0w20 or they really just didnt know that the 2010 rx takes that oil and were tryin to cover their butts. Give your dealer that part # and I bet it works and they have it!
