Default Nav Question

Just took delivery of my '04 Breakwater Blue RX330, Prem+, NAV, RSES, LACC on Sunday (ordered back in June). I love this vehicle! All the techy gadgets are what hooked me. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to enter destinations into the Nav while the car is moving. I know it is not a good idea to do this as the driver, which is why Lexus has disabled it, but my passenger was trying to enter an address and I had to stop the car in order for her to enter it. Anyone figure out a way around this?

Thanks,
John

If you know to map the address yourself or the approximate location, just point it there and press enter, then follow directions to start the NAV. But there's no way you can enter the exact address.

You have 5 set points at the bottom of the destination screen. Once set for known locations you can select while moving. Otherwise a totally annoying feature. As said before if they can turn off an airbag by the weight of the passenger why couldn't they turn on the Navigation when it senses one?

Alan,
I agree 100%. For a vehicle that is so technologically advanced, you would think that would be an option. I am sure Lexus is just covering their a--. I'll bet there is a diagnostic mode or some service mode that allows many of these safety features ("annoyances") to be disabled. I wonder if a Service Manual might have some info on this.

I just discovered that you don't actually have to be in Park to view the RSES on the front Nav screen. The kids were watching Shrek last night, and I was listening to the audio using th AUX setting on the Audio system. We stopped at a light, and just for kicks, I lightly pressed down on the Parking Brake pedal just enough to make the BRAKE indicator light come on, while still in Drive, but not moving, and the Nav display switched over to the DVD display. Although as soon as you start moving, it switches back to the previous display.

A lot of these new "drive by wire" vehicles have special hidden button combinations that enable/disable certain features. Like, pressing and holding the Audio system power button, while at the same time pushing the up the turn indicator **** and stepping on the brake pedal 3 times, and then quickly opening and closing the glove box with your rear right side passenger window rolled down will engage the time travel option.....
