Default Radar Detector Installation

Hi All,

I would like to install a radar detector on the dirvers side visor of of My RX330. To do this, I need to get 12 volts to the visor. The dealership said that I should get it from the dome light, reading light, or garage door opener wiring directly t the right of the visor. Is this true? If so, how do I get at the wiring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

WM,

I have a similar plan for my RX 300. Connecting to the front dome light (combined with the sun roof control) seems the best place to get power on the 300 since the light should have a switched power lead to it. I would look for that lead so the radar detector will go on with the ignition.

ederny,

Thanks for your response. I had an RX300 with a detector on the visor. For that one, I hard wired into the 12 volt connector on the console using the connector supplied with the detector. I ran the telephone cable it uses for the 12 volts under the seat and the molding up to the visor. It was undetectable. On my 330, I had done the same thing from connector in the cargo area but was told by the dealer the cord might interfere with the side curtain air bag.

I have tried to access the wiring under the dome light but cannot get the panel or the lens off. it looks like the lens should come off for bulb replacement, but I don't want to force it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

WM, many thanks for your comments. I'll let you know if I get the assembly apart. Currently I do a similar thing using the supplied cable and connector to the aux 12v power (cigarette lighter).
