Default Liqui moly MOS2 - moly additive. Does it help to reduce friction?

I was wondering if Liqui Moly sold at Napa Auto Parts helps reduce friction / noise.

Can you share your thoughts opinions if you have used this product. I have been thinking to add a ltr of this to my engine but I would like to hear comments before I go down this path.

Thanks,

Use a name brand synthetic oil of the correct viscosity range in your engine - no need for 'snake oil'. Only lightens your wallet.

Agree completely! Moly additives and graphite oils were popular in the dino (non-synthetic) oil days. I used them. But synthetic oils are engineered to give optimal engine protection today. Even in those earlier days when I used these products, I always wondered whether the particles might possibly clog the oil filters.

+1 - Today's synthetic oils are great. The Toyota synthetic oil is a very very good oil. Just use that one and you will be fine.

I have seen a synthetic blend out there for high Mileage vehicles or vehicles with over 75,000 miles. Mobil makes a synthetic blend (Mobil1 5-30W - oil grade recommended for the RX330) for high mileage vehicles that claims extended protection for vehicles over 75K. After reading all of your opinions in this thread I was thinking that I should try this blend rather than using oil additives.

By the way my RX330 has 91,000 Miles in the odometer.

Thank you guys!!

robbyk,

If your RX's engine is in sound condition, I would stick with regular 5W-30 synthetic (I use Walmart's supertech). High mileage oils have seal sweller additives.

Mobil 1 is a very good synthetic and many members on CL use it. I plan to do the same when my RX350 reaches 75K miles. I am at 72K miles now.

I hope the 'oil' people enjoy it. I did.

Thanks,
I've used the LM MOS2 additive in my '05 RX330 (162K miles) with Toyota 0W20 full synthetic the last 3 oil changes. Sounds quieter and smoother, possibly better mpg (certainly not worse). No issue at all. Doesn't cost me much either since I put in a little less oil.

ps - the additive comes in 300ml bottle - that's what I use.

You can also try Mobile 1 0W30 ...90K miles is not considered "high" mileage nowadays.....

On our 04 Lexus RX330, I have used both Mobil 1 and Pennzoil.

When I had the oil analysis completed:
--Mobil 1 5W30 / 72K on the vehicle / 6,640 miles on oil / Iron 10 / TBN 2.7.
--Pennzoil 5W30 high mileage with 1 quart Pennzoil Platinum / 155K on the vehicle / 5,510 miles on oil / Iron 5 / TBN 2.3.

Iron went down when I switched from Mobil 1 -> Pennzoil.

As you can see, I run my own blend and while Mobil 1 was run for an additional ~1100 miles, the TBN for Mobil 1 was not that much greater.

In my opinion, today's oils are exceptional and unless you are extending the interval or running in extreme climates, for my daily drivers, I haven't needed a full synthetic.

For every car I have owned and run conventional, it wasn't the engine oil that caused me to stop driving it. Our 88 Camry was a great example, when rust took over with a little over 350,000 miles on the vehicle.

As for the OP question regarding additives, as previously stated, besides making your wallet a bit lighter, they won't hurt anything. I have run some of the different additives and didn't see any issues.

As always, YMMV, this is just my experience.
