Hi all,

I am looking to replace my 2007 RX350's valve cover gasket, as it has a tiny leak. I have some questions that I am hoping to get answers for.

1) I went to my local Lexus dealer and looked for the gasket AND the spark plug tube seals. There are TWO part numbers for gasket "112140P040" AND "112130P010". I can call and ask them, but I thought that it's strange that the two parts look exactly the same! The spark plug tube seals (part number 1119370010) is exactly what I want -- listed for those who are interested.

I also went on eBay, which I am not going to buy from, and saw the item sold WITH TWO gaskets (see picture below) plus the spark plug tube seals, the bottom gasket is being the one that I look to replace. So, are these the two gaskets for the above ones from the Lexus dealer? I really don't know what the top gasket is for.

2) Besides the parts listed in item #1, are there any other parts that I need to get to do the work?

3) Would appreciate the torque information on the 10mm nuts around the valve cover if anyone knows of.

4) Found a couple how-to videos on YouTube. I look to replace the PCV valve and the oil control line's filter as well. I've already gotten those parts. Any tip/advice/gotchas that anyone can share is appreciated. I think it's manageable DIY job, as I have been doing my oil change and even had replaced the radiator for my 2007 RX350 before.

Since everyone shows 2 different part numbers, there must be a difference, so order the correct part number.

The torque spec for the valve cover bolts is 7 ft pounds.

Thanks for the torque info. Funny I just bought a torque wrench from 10ft pounds to 80ft pounds. I guess I need something that can do less than 10ft pounds!

One part no is for right bank (bank 1, firewall side), and one for left bank, says so in the description. I.e., Lexus sells a single gasket specific to each bank (the banks are different). looks like some eBay sellers gives you both.

Also, you need to clean any "seal packing" off where the timing cover meets the camshaft carrier, and re-apply new sealing at the joints. There is also a washer for the middle bolt that has a rubber seal, and there are rubber o-rings for the cover oil tubes:

You mention it's a tiny leak, have you considered using Permatex Black or Toyota FIPG? Might save a few $$.

I'd replace the tube seals as well & you'll need a inch pound torque wrench as well.....

Depending on the mileage you might also consider replacing the sparkplugs and coil packs and oil control valves. I have a 2007 sienna with 300K+ miles on it and the 2GR-FE engine. The oil control valves recently failed on me and I had to have them replaced. It is so much easier to do it all while you are already in there doing the head gaskets. Just a thought.....

The OP is wanting to change out his valve cover gaskets, not the head gaskets.....

Oh, my bad. I meant to say valve cover gaskets, not head gaskets. Thanks for pointing that out. Still the advice is the same since the oil control valves and the coils and the spark plugs all require removing the intake manifold and windshield cowl to replace them. I would also add cleaning the throttle valve and MAF sensor since you are there.

They list it as a VVT "Variable Valve Timing" Solenoid/Actuator, search for VVT should find it under "engine"

Totally new to the forum and DIY. I relocated from Miami, where I had tons of mechanic friends to Central Florida, where I have had to fend for myself. I need to do some of this work on my 2007 RX350 RWD ( I changed the starter the other day!).

Would you help a noob and please provide a recommended list with part numbers/links? Thanks!
