Default Battery Recommendation

My wife's RX's batter is about to go bad - weak start. Can any recommend battery brand/model? The ones from Pepboys or O'Reilly's are not an option and they leak acid after a few months of use from my experience.

I've shortened brands into the below three.

1. Interstate: Does costco still sell these?
2. AC Delco
3. Napa

I live in California so 600CCA should be sufficient i think.

I bought mine at Costco about a year ago, no problems so far. If you were going to buy a battery at Costco they will sell the one you need.
On the other car Mercedes C Class we bought the battery at Walmart. Also so far so good.

Just bought one at Costco yesterday. Interstate $82.99 plus $15 core charge. Size 24F but Costco's # is 23. Full 4 years refund.

My 2008 had its battery replaced by Longo in 2011. Since they warrantied it back then, now they wanted $191 for it including installation. Lexus battery only has 2 years full refund, 50% year 2-4, and 25% year 4-7.

Thanks fellas.

I am seeing some good reviews on this battery (http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/524229/00603). Even with 30% off it's double the cost of the Costco Interstate battery. Is it worth it? and i assume size 35 fits if i'm not mistaken.

Having been stranded a few times in my life due to a dead battery, I now proactively replace all of my vehicles' batteries at 3 years of life. I live in FL and the heat gets to them.
My local Toyota dealer is competitive on prices so I use Toyota batteries. I'd rather spend $75-100 on a battery than be stranded and have to get a jump or tow.

Good idea, considering the age of the car. This is our first time replacing the battery - don't know how but it lasted 11 years @ 87K miles.

The battery completely died today so I just went to costco and bought Interstate battery for $83 plus tax plus core fee. We'll see how this holds up.

The Costco ones fit perfectly with the oem battery tie downs. I'm not sure if the Optima ones do. You may have to fabricate something to hold the battery down tighter for non conventional size or shape.

I replaced the battery in both of my Lexus with the EverStart battery from Walmart. Consumer Reports says this is a best buy and is ranked at the top for Group 24 batteries. Cost is $80. The Interstate Mega-Tron Plus MTP-24 is recommended and cost $125. I went with the EverStart as it was ranked higher and cost less.

+1 with the Everstart. Its made by Johnson Controls, (also the maker of Sears Die Hard) ..and has 90% of the NA car battery market.
Any problems with the EverStart, exchange it/pro-rate it at any Walmart.

I had a bad Interstate batter die on me after about a month of owning it. One of the cells went bad inside. Instead of getting another Interstate battery I went with another member's recommendation for an Optima Yellow Top. Its a deep cell battery and it fit perfectly into the battery holder no need for any special equipment. Its a lot lighter in weight then the one I was replacing. Less weight means more MPG. Anyway, I always wanted a Optima battery but never had then need as all my cars had factory warranties, so if the battery died and they tested it as low and confirmed it they would replace free of charge. Optima are probably the most expensive ones to get it. But considering that a factory battery from Lexus the Optima still ends up being cheaper.

Optima Yellow Top. It is double the price but the best thing I ever bought for my car. Especially if you have the hybrid!

I bought a NAPA battery for my 04 and it is still working. Someone made a comment about the 3 year mark and I agree… anything after that is a gift.
